82-year-old first-time voter cast all-GOP ballot to help 'drain the swamp' before dying

An 82-year-old woman in Texas voted for the first time in early voting last week just before passing away Monday.

Gracie Lou Phillips was very ill, but said she was motivated to vote Republican Thursday to help "drain the swamp," according to her son-in-law.

"She wanted to drain the swamp. She voted straight-ticket Republican," her son-in-law Jeff Griffith told the Washington Post. "She was very happy. She kept saying she finally got to vote."

President Trump often uses the phrase "drain the swamp" at campaign rallies when talking about getting rid of corruption in Washington, D.C.

Phillips said she wanted to vote in Grand Prairie, Texas because voting had become important to her and she wanted to have a say in the 2018 midterm elections.
