Now that Bob Dole has spoken up for his party, which democrap is going to speak up about their party.

IMO...both parties need to be shut down and "closed for repairs". Some need to be put in jail, others need to be fired, and the rest need to get their heads out of the sand and make America whole again. Only tough men and woman will make tough choices to make ole "Red, White, and Blue shine again.

People sleep peacefully at night because there are a few tough men prepared to do violence on their behalf.

A foolish man complains about his torn pockets.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.

Mr. Dole is an American patriot. However, he is also may be the original RINO. I am tired of og pubs saying we need to fix our party. No, we just need a strategy to win. We are in total denial that dems will ever work with the GOP unless it is to their benefit.

Correct! The consummate RINO at that, and it was he along with his brethren that got us to this point.
"Asked whether Republicans of years past, many of whom had a more diplomatic approach to compromise and governance than today's Republicans, would be able to make it in the modern GOP, Dole said, "I doubt it."

It's that willingness for compromise that's created the Tea party, we're sick and tired of capitulating to the left, it's always the Right ceding ground, and it's time to stop, and if that means seizure of the GOP, then that's what will happen, in other words, either the RINO cede power to the Tea party, or face irrelevance.
The day's of Dole are over, it's time to take the party back.

Again. It is not a Democrat vs Republican thing. The Democrats are the Left Wing of the Ruling Elite and the Republicans are the Right Wing of the Ruling Elite. They all go to the same schools work in the same business (mostly the legal profession) eat at the same restaurants (you know, the ones you and I can't afford to go to), and, most importantly, they all think the same way.

They are the defacto Royalty of the U.S.. The legal system with its plethora of lawyers and judges are the modern day equivalent of the Medieval clerics.

They are the Ruling Class, and we have about as much chance of influencing their decision making process as an indentured servant would have of becoming King of England back in the Dark Ages.

Way past high time the rank and file came to terms w/the reality that the GOP is not and has never been a party of principled conservatism. NEVER. Goober Dole is a facsimile of their ideal candidate.

I lost all respect for Dole when he started making commercials for Viagra several years ago.  It was undignified.  Another case of a Senator doing anything for money.

Lets not pick on him for doing a commerical.  He has served his country well and he is right we are broken and I see no sign of it being fixed.

While it's true Robert Dole was wounded in WW II and left with a paralyzed arm, I put him in the same category as McCain.  I honor his service to the country but that has nothing whatsoever to do with his being a RINO.  I used the example of his making a commercial for Viagra as an indication that he is just another old pol who will do anything for money.  IMO Being a United States Senator obligates one to maintain a dignified appearance.  His sex life is and was a private matter and to make that commercial degraded the position he held.  That is not "{Picking on him."  That is the truth.

I think the argument that it is wrong for Obama to deny that we are at war with jihad and radical Islamists, I think that the GOP needs to get its act together. If it were not for the tea party the GOP would be irrelevant.  Dole might be a RINO but he was right. Now the fix probably is not what he would envision a fixed GOP to be but with a clown like Obama in office the GOP should be putting the finishing touches on the total destruction of the Dem party.  But I saw last night that Obama's ratings just crossed over 50 in terms of those who think he is doing a poor job.  The GOP should have made it crystal clear by now just what a joke his presidency has been.  But we hear barely a peep or the noise they make is more like the sound of a tree falling in the forest with no one around.

I left the Dem party and have never seen a good reason to join the GOP so I am not the person to say what the party should become but I think that as an outsider I can saw what would be very appealing to me.

First and foremost I think that they have to be the party of real fiscal conservatism and small government.  Be honest, many of the conservatives are weak when it comes to stopping the handout of money.

Secondly, I think they have to promote and drive the rapid and extensive reduction in government and its regulations.  I think they could show their real commitment by getting rid of the IRS and instituting a flat tax or a nationwide sales tax. Everyone pays and you do not need a huge bureaucracy to manage it.

Lastly, and I am sure that most here would disagree, they have to get out of the moral preaching on social issues.  I really do not think that the government needs to be involved and in many situations it really should be up to the church or the states to decide.  I am not suggesting that the politician should change their personal beliefs but allowing these social issues to take center stage is a sure way to occupy the losers bracket.  Only god really knows the answer to most of them and a politician making that determination is a joke.

I think they need to jump on the social media and the new ways to send out information.  I think they really need to answer the questions and be very clear about what they want to do.  Ryan and Christie both are popular just because they lay their position out there for all to see.  The party has to be the party of straight talkers and the press be damned. In fact I think the more factual they are the less likely it will be that the press could jump on a vague piece of information and distort it to please Obama.  Sure they will still do their best but if the whole story is out there it is less likely to work so well.   In my view get in the weeds.

Raptor, I didn't want to click on quote because your post is long, but I have to say that I agree with most of what you say.  When Bob Dole said that the Republicans need to be closed for repairs, your suggestions are not the repairs he meant.  At least they were not when he was a Senator.

But some of what you suggest, such as a flat tax which is a wonderful idea and has been pushed by various politicians from time to time wouldn't stand a chance. Were it passed by the Republican Congress, the Democratic Senate would kill it or if not, it would be vetoed by President Obama.

Most of what you suggest is common sense.  But common sense is most uncommon these days.
