If this started occurring across the county, it could change the whole debate.

Raye Ann Blauer, a kindergarten teacher, told FOX 13 she is considering using her permit to carry a firearm at school.

English teacher Kevin Leatherbarrow holds a license to carry a concealed weapon and doesn't see anything wrong with arming teachers in the aftermath of the deadly Connecticut school shooting.  "We're sitting ducks," said Leatherbarrow, who works at a Utah charter school. "You don't have a chance in hell. You're dead -- no ifs, ands or buts."

I hope I don't jinx this by making this statement, but I feel there are two good reasons these kinds of school shootings/school attacks just don't happen here in Utah.

1) Utah is a concealed carry state and a large percentage of the population has firearms for sporting an defense purpose.

2) Mormonism - the predominate religion in this state - teaches right and wrong as absolutes. They also teach that if you don't oppose something that is wrong then you are complicit in the wrong doing yourself. Therefore, if a student talks about attacking a school (it is a proven fact that all school shooters tell someone what they are going to do in advance) one of his fellow students is going to tell the authorities.

This is what happened a couple of months ago at my wife's high school (she graduated in 74). A couple of kids were talking about attacking the school with home made explosives. One of the students told her teacher and the teacher contacted authorities.

The kids were arrested and the explosives seized.

No one got hurt.

As an extra benefit, the kids behind the plot were caught before they "crossed the line", if you will. They can now receive the consoling and rehabilitation, instead of ending up dead or in prison for life.

Excellent point. Our society has become so PC that it is not proper to identify folks who might be dangerous. Adam Lanza gave so many signals it was unbelievable, however his situation was never addressed. Unfortunately, it seems his mother may have reached the point to do something, but it was too late.
