What's in a name? Plenty if you're Native American.

One of the big PC arguments these days surrounds the use of "Redskins" to describe Native Americans, and how the left howls it's vitally necessary sports teams remove that name, no matter how many people don't want that to change at all.

So here's a graphic or two, breaking it down for us. There are 42,624 sports teams names in researchers' databases, but only 2,128 reference native Americans at all. Of those, fully 90% were high school teams. Among the entire 42,624 professional, semi-pro, college, high school and amateur teams, only 75 use the name "Redskins."

A second graphic shows (by state) the percentage of those claiming Red Man ancestry.

This is my biggest bitch about PC. People actually acknowledge it, and by doing so, give it power.
If I was the owner, I'd publicly rebuke these people, shame the hell out of them, and dare them to come after me with everything they've got, because I have public opinion and sanity on my side, all you have is racebaiters.

But by trying to workout a solution with these people only helps to empower them.
The message that would be the most effective would be to stand up in front of cameras and tell them to "stuff your bull shit where the sun don't shine,  I'll continue to show my reverence for the native Americans courage and strength by keeping the name in honor of a great people."

Dealing with them is a sign of weakness, and that's not honoring the native American.

Well, it would've died down if Obama hadn't run his ignorant mouth about it, but I'm glad to see the owner of the Redskins hold out. The left's PC argument over this is just ridiculous.

Dr. Meh

Remember when the native private school tried to make a point by naming their team "The Fighting Whities"? It totally blew up in their face because the name is fantastic and a bunch of white people were excited to have a team named after them. Good stuff. Gotta love it when things blow up in their pc faces.

Also, I'm giving it five years before the term "native" is deemed offensive.

Ever notice that they don't ask Native American's what they think?

I mean these lefties all run around demanding the name be changed, because it's allegedly demeaning to Native Americans.

WHEN the truth of the matter is.

These lefties, who by saying the name demeans Native American's are in effect still calling Native American's "redskins" are who demean and denigrate Native American's.

Especially given I have yet to see one of my fellow Native American's who actually god honestly has "red skin".

Really dark tan, (especially if out in the sun a lot in the summertime) yeah, but red????

Only if your dumb and stay out in the sun way to long.   On the first big day of sun.  Hell even a white man becomes a red skin for 3 or 4 days doing that every year.

Pursue the PC a step further and you have Native-Americans and other cultures naming their kids after events or reference places.

What if a kid didn't like being named Sleeps With Fishes, or whatever?
