Title: Robotic burger-machine Flippy debuts
Post by: quiller on March 12, 2017, 04:49:37 PM
The inventors claim the machine can be installed in just minutes. Take that, SEIU!

Quote
"Though we are starting with the relatively 'simple' task of cooking burgers, our proprietary AI software allows our kitchen assistants to be adaptable and therefore can be trained to help with almost any dull, dirty or dangerous task in a commercial kitchen — whether it's frying chicken, cutting vegetables or final plating."

Cameras and sensors help Flippy to determine when the burger is fully cooked, before the robot places them on a bun. A human worker then takes over and adds condiments.

More Flippy robots will be introduced at CaliBurgers next year, with the aim of installing them in 50 of their restaurants worldwide by the end of 2019.

Most fast food places, and a lot of standard restaurants I have seen recently simply use a top grill. Put the patties on the grill, lower the top grill and it cooks both sides of the patties simultaneously. Saves both cooking time and the need to flip the patties. but a human is still needed to remove them from the grill.

But the invention does show that anytime automation can become less expensive than human labor costs, jobs will be lost to automation. And while this process is inevitable over time, increasing the minimum wage only speeds up the shift to automation.

Maybe the progs and their unions need to wake the F up and get rid of the idea that entry level jobs are supposed to provide livable wages.

I don't think the technology is there yet but the left is forcing it.

Robots have been painting car bodies for more than 30 years,
so they can probably flip hamburgers, too.
