I love democrats. They are experts at creating their own circular firing squads. House democrats are holding hearings on a bill by Sheila Jackson Lee concerning reparations for slavery. The witnesses include some of the expected Hollywood left who have no expertise on the subject. I encourage the democrats to pass this through committee and bring to the house floor for a vote. Hopefully it will pass and be sent to the senate. I suggest McConnell bring it to a vote and put democrat senators on record in this matter.

I want reparations for being rejected from MIT because they "already had enough locals". The admissions officer's exact words.

Meaning, clearly, White American Citizens.

A couple of Million will do.

Cryptic Bert

We had eight years of Obama telling us how terrible we are. We've had decades of the race card shoved in our face every time we disagreed with a democrat. We've paid enough already.

The whole idea behind reperations is both erroneous and evil. Individual human beings in 2019 have nothing to do with the past sufferings of Blacks from slavery. However, some whites are responsible for the sufferings of Blacks in the early to mid 20th century. But to blame an entire race for the sufferings of another and force them to pay money to blacks that may very well be extremely well off and suffered no systemic discrimination has no place in American Society.

I have to admit reparations is a tough topic. Any reader of history knows the bias and bigotry blacks faced in America. The KKK was founded on racial hatred and the lynchings in the south during that period are a real stain on America. Google Image, 'lynching' sometime if you doubt. The book below is an interesting read. But democrats are making a mistake as this topic know no answers.

"It's always been a great survival value for people to believe they belong to a superior tribe. That's just in human relationships." E. O. Wilson

"White children, in the main, and whether they are rich or poor, grow up with a grasp of reality so feeble that they can very accurately be described as deluded--about themselves and the world they live in. White people have managed to get through their entire lifetimes in this euphoric state, but black people have not been so lucky: a black man who sees the world the way John Wayne, for example, sees it would not be an eccentric patriot, but a raving maniac." This might help, https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/06/the_logic_of_reparations.html
one quote  "If one were to contrast the economic advantage of a life lived by a native of Africa whose ancestors had not been taken in slavery with a black American whose ancestors had been taken in slavery, one might be inclined to conclude that there was no advantage to having remained in Africa. In fact, one can make a case that such actions resulted in a benefit rather than a loss." In other words, are blacks better off today here in America than the blacks who were not brought over.

supsalemgr

Having spent my entire life in the South I find the idea of who owned slaves misunderstood. To my knowledge none of ancestors owned slaves. I think research would show a very small percentage of Whites owned slaves. In facy, the great majority of olks who lived in the South were "dirt poor".

Of course this talk of reparations is not about justice, it is about politics.

Like anything, the Dims always blame others for the things they're guilty of, and in this case, it is they, who own Americas racist past. This is why they need to remove statues dedicated to their past why they pitted two leftist groups against one another and created the Alt-Right, in hopes of tricking people into believing that somehow, their racist Nazi group was somehow attached to the right.
Both those groups were created by the left, the latest, ANTIFA, a fascist group claiming to be anti fascist.

Dinesh has a point but like so much of his commentary, it is kinda irrelevant. Consider when slavery began, consider where slavery existed the strongest, consider why slavery was fought by the South. Consider how much the parties have changed in these past hundred years. History isn't so simple Dinesh, but you know that I hope.

"Slavery in America started in 1619, when a Dutch ship brought 20 African slaves ashore in the British colony of Jamestown, Virginia."

"By February 1854, anti-slavery Whigs had begun meeting in the upper midwestern states to discuss the formation of a new party. One such meeting, in Wisconsin on March 20, 1854, is generally remembered as the founding meeting of the Republican Party."

"When did the Democratic Party begin? January 8, 1828"

Slavery links for the interested reader.

"Her conclusion is that the Americans who fought the Civil War overwhelmingly thought they were fighting about slavery, and that we should take their word for it."

AmericanHeritage.com / Why the Civil War Was Fought, Really

"Benjamin Franklin, in a 1773 letter to Dean Woodward, confirmed that whenever the Americans had attempted to end slavery, the British government had indeed thwarted those attempts. Franklin explained that . . .  . a disposition to abolish slavery prevails in North America, that many of Pennsylvanians have set their slaves at liberty, and that even the Virginia Assembly have petitioned the King for permission to make a law for preventing the importation of more into that colony. This request, however, will probably not be granted as their former laws of that kind have always been repealed. "

Slavery has nothing to do with any problems of black Americans.  Leftist policies do.  It's very sad when people like yourself look down on blacks simply because of their race.  I hope someday you can evolve past that.

They, like their predecessor Margaret Sanger, see them as stray unwanted kittens that need taken care of, and when they breed out of control, they'd send them to her establishment, Planned parenthood. Libs are so caring.
