Rep. Renee Ellmers Loses Primary Fight, Despite Donald Trump Endorsement

by DR. SUSAN BERRY7 Jun 20161,030

Incumbent North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers – the first Republican member of Congress endorsed by presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump – decisively lost her primary battle Tuesday to her colleague, Rep. George Holding.
<snip>
Ellmers came to Congress in the 2010 Tea Party wave, but abandoned her conservative principles after her election. She voted in favor of President Barack Obama's 2014 executive amnesty and his funding for Syrian refugees, and she led a charge to shelve the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in 2015 on the eve of the March for Life. She justified her opposition by saying the measure would negatively affect the GOP with women and millennial voters.

Did she lose because Trump endorsed her, or because she turned against Conservatives?

I would hope this is from becoming a RINO. Trump was just the last nail.

With a score of 53%, she's certainly not much of a conservative.  :thumbdown:

Renee' Elmers lost her primary to a more conservative republican. Both were sitting congress persons, but redistricting required they run against each other. Elmers had gone full GOPe and the good conservatives in eastern NC saw fit to dismiss her. TEA is still working!  :thumbsup:

I just posted about this in the 2016 vetting thread. Might want to combine the two. She had gone full GOPe.

Change is still in the air. I realize this is about local and state legislative races, but it proves we are still seeing positive changes. Long time GOP pols are being ousted and TEA is alive and well.

It has taken over 45 years of Dem's infiltrating the GOP.  It will take one step at a time to move it back where it should be.  Writing in Ted Cruz will be just one more step.  I am hoping it will be a big one.
