A record 21.6 million young adults in America were living in their parents in 2012, according to a new Pew Research Center poll on the so-called millennial generation.

It's the highest number in at least four decades in the United States.

"My parents really didn't want me to take out loans and I kind of agreed that it would hold me back in the future, so I decided that living at home would be OK, at least for my bachelor's degree," said Stephanie Levonne, 20, a college student living at home with her parents in New York.

36 percent of young adults, ages 18-31, have either moved back in with their parents or never left home, compared to 32 percent prior to the 2007 recession, and 34 percent when the recession officially ended in 2009.

SHE decided. Nice of the folks to go along!

Myself I have always enjoy my kids around.   When they started working they had to start putting money away big time.  For the day they got tired of us.
They always had a big savings account when they hit the door.

The thought just struck me that you may have invented a new meaning for ransom.

Am I the only one who sees a grave disservice being done to these kids, and our society by these parents who allow such shenanigans?

Seriously ladies and gents, this is harming your kids, and our society.

Because instead of preparing your kids for facing the realities of life in this world.

Your allowing them to remain sheltered, until such time as suddenly your no longer around to do so, and the kid now has to face that world, unprepared and unequipped to do so.

At which point, then our society has to step in to provide for them.

No other animal in the animal kingdom would ever harm it's own children that way.

So why do you libs?

One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

Living on parent's health insurance until 26?

This is an intentional nudge, intended to move these people directly from parental dependency to government dependency.

Once the parents are dead, how are they going to pay our $20 trillion debt?

When I graduated from college I had a job and engaged to be married in 3 1/2 months so I was just going to stay with my folks until that time. My first day of work I came home and my Dad advised me I was welcomed to stay there until I got married, but he was going to ask for $xxx for my room and board until I moved out. I immediately went out and found a place to rent for my future bride and I. Today, I truly appreciate that move by him and it gave me some guidance for my son. We don't see much of that in parenting today.

Same here, dad said he would charge rent (mkt value) when I turned 18, and why would I want to live under their rues for the same price on my own?

So I too bailed. But even back then, two friends my age, brothers, lived at their parents house for another 10 years, same room with their two single beds.
Jeff finally moved out, Jimmy, the other brother is still there to this day, dads gone, his mom still kicking.
He never married, never became responsible, never held a job for more than a year, and still gets high and drinks way too much.
Jeff has some serious personal issues he has yet to deal with,. Any surprise there?

This is the effects of poor parenting, kids never hit adulthood.

My Dad told me to get out and find my own way; rent wasn't an option.
