I heard about this auction on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday Feb. 2, 2017.
He had sent one of his show writers, Ariel Dumas, to buy Martin Van Buren, but not pay over $2000.
She was outbid by a phone bidder, who turned out to be Jon Stewart! One of his own staff writers!
So she bought Zachary Taylor instead, for $2200.

It was gratifying to see Lyndon Baines "I'll Draft and Murder Your Son" Johnson drew only pennies for each of the people he got killed in Vietnam on his watch. Now drop a little friendly-fire napalm on it and turn it into slag like his legacy.
