Quote
A Louisiana mayor issued a memo last week apparently banning the city's recreation department from purchasing any Nike products.

Kenner City Mayor Ben Zahn appeared to declare on Sept. 5, that "under no circumstances" should Nike products or any product with the Nike logo be purchased, WBRZ 2 reported Saturday.

Zahn's office sent the memo to Parks and Recreation Department Director Chad Pitfield on Sept. 5, according to what appears to be a copy of the letter posted to WBRZ.

Thats cool, and im all for it, but is it legal? I wld hate to see lib mayors banning christian buisnesses

It's already happening. Like when local governments ban Chic-Fil-A from the county.

He is not banning anything. This is about the city making purchases. I would not think there would be any legal implications from that

From what I understand there's a difference between government and private business. The government has the right to void and or retract contracts with certain companies if they feel that the policies imposed by them do not reflect their best interests. This does go into a debate of morally is it right, and to that, the answer is no. But to say that banning Nike over a political debate is different than banning something over a religious liberty or a case of blatant discrimination in my eyes is far different.

This has zero to do with religion!
What the Mayor said was: "effective immediately," any booster club operating at city recreation facilities must have their purchases approved by Pitfield - including apparel, shoes, athletic equipment "and/or any athletic product."

Nike made this political, the Mayor, by his measure, is simply staying above the fray by stating they will approve all purchases, that way they avoid making a political statement by giving the impression the city supports Nike's bull shit.

Folks, lets keep religion where it belongs, out of Politics!
