If your cause is so righteous, why hide your face?

Well, we know the answer to that one.

They remind me of the KKK in a way, always hiding their faces.
It should. Given that when the KKK began, the actual reason the KKK wore hoods was as a terror tactic. A means to instill terror in black American's of the deep south.

They didn't wear them because they were particularly embarrassed or afraid to let everyone in town know exactly who they were.
One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

The Re-construction era Klan was in a virtually lawless time and was mostly protecting the widows and orphans from the "Carpetbaggers" and the newly freed "Young Bucks", it dwindled as times got better, then came back in the early 20th century in a very different form, what I like to call the "Progressive Era Klan", which seems to have gone hand in hand with Eugenics thinking of the time.  Most Southerners understand the difference.

I have been studying Southerners history for over 70+ years.   What I find interesting is only Southerners understands the South.  But then I can say that of the old Cherokee Nation also.

My understanding may come from my family coming from Northern Alabama, pre and post War for Southern Independence. My Great Great Grandmother was Cherokee from that area. Interesting history yes....

GG Grandma bailed on the "Trail of Tears" and stayed in Alabama. Horrible part of American history what was done to the Cherokee. Grandpa passed down many of the old ways of farming etc. from her to me growing up. I often wish I had paid better attention to his knowledge.
