Hurricane Irma - 185mph!

This one could be really bad.   Problem thought... the NWS has been crying WOLF for so long, and getting everyone in such a panic who knows if this is going to suddenly turn north and miss Florida, turn into Florida, or take a swipe at New Orleans?   They seem to be pretty set on it hitting the Florida Keys.

I haven't heard any reports of Gators hanging out, jaws wide open, hoping to snatch a couple of Hurricane plucked Chickens flying by...

Maybe Mrs. Independence has some insight to share?

What's this?  Sure hope it's FAKE NEWS.

http://dailycaller.com/2017/09/05/virgin-islands-allows-national-guard-to-seize-guns-ammo-ahead-of-hurricane-irma/
QuoteU.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp signed an emergency order allowing the seizure of private guns, ammunition, explosives and property the National Guard may need to respond to Hurricane Irma.

Mapp signed the order Monday in preparation for Hurricane Irma. The order allows the Adjutant General of the Virgin Islands to seize private property they believe necessary to protect the islands, subject to approval by the territory's Justice Department.

Mapp issued an emergency declaration Tuesday and mobilized National Guard units to prepare for the massive storm.

At a time when the homeowner would need guns for home defense the most - this makes no sense at all.

They adopted one back in 2009, but it was shot down by both houses of the Democrat Congress and Obama in 2010.

The VI government is a Democrat stronghold. No Republican has served in a major position since 1998. There are currently no Republicans in the territorial legislature.

I think a little strong-arm gun confiscation would be just hunky-dory with the powers that be there. Hard to believe that the VI citizens who have elected such a left-wing political structure would suddenly grow a fondness for a constitution that may or may not protect their rights.

Of course, it strikes me that folks in a place where there are only about 7 men for every 8 women over the age of 18 might have other things on their minds..... :tounge:

Just liberals trying to take advantage of a disaster to confiscate guns.

Read it to Wifey, she said "lately" women are better defenders of freedom than men.  -ouch-
Probably men trying to disarm women & level the playing field.

Most definitely true on the left, where men wear women's clothes and women fight for the right to murder innocent human beings.
How freakin backwards is that?

After Andrew, I think they tend to error on the side of the worst case scenario, but when you have a Cat 5 heading for you; you best pay attention.  It's heading our way and I don't think there's any crying wolf at all on this one.  Meanwhile I've been hunting around for days to find a pet-friendly (hubby's mutt not mine) hotel to escape to.  Everything is booked; I looked east and west of I-75 and on up into TN. I finally got a reservation in a not so good hotel in a not so good part of town and have tickets to the GA aquarium, so better than nothing at this point. We were planning to stay with family in NC, but that didn't seem like a good option after she's predicted to hit the east coast. This hurricane is going to be an absolute nightmare for those who get hit.   It's projected to hit the Keys and take a sharp turn to the east, pummel Broward and Miami/Dade and on up into the Carolina's . We'll see.  I think its way too early to feel comfortable with its path.  If it doesn't take that sharp turn to the east like they think, the Gulf coast will be devastated by the Cat 5 with heavy flooding and it'll move up the middle of the state and possibly into GA -- just where most people headed to escape.

No matter how you slice it, this is going to be bad regardless.

I wish you well. Be careful. Some parts of ATL may be worse than a cat 5.

Yes, I've checked the crime rate where we have reservations and it's pretty high; I woke up this morning thinking about staying in ATL vs. staying put. Right now, most of the forecast models show the hurricane shifting north east around Saturday. Hopefully she'll make that turn as predicted, otherwise we'll be in trouble as Saturday will be too late to leave.  IF by Friday they have reason to believe she's not going to take that turn then we'll probably venture out. (At this point, I know it's a gamble) Definitely not looking forward to that 'venture' at all.  Growing up around the Detroit area I tend to be cautious, but a few years ago I had to visit Miami to see a specialist.  I will never go back for anything for any reason ... give me Detroit.

May I ask what part of town or suburb are your reservations? I grew up there.

Irma appears to be tracking a bit more to the East as opposed to the track map.
Hit refresh every hour or so, this is live visible satellite, but you can't see it after the sun goes down.

Looking at the analysis, Katina turned into the Gulf and is now crossing the peninsula. Though Irma appears to be heading towards the East side of Florida, it is suddenly steering a bit West, in just the last two hours, with Jose hot on its heels.

Wonder if a miracle might occur and have it follow Katina's path? I did say miracle.

Latest track shows it as a possible tropical storm right over Hendersonville Tuesday morning.
