I'm calling it a "government-caused disaster" because
it was the government that created the conditions
that made the freeway vulnerable to fire.
It was the government that was storing construction materials
under the elevated highway.
The National Fire Code says that
no combustible materials shall be stored under any stairway.
The same principle should be applied to highways.
Decades ago, Dayton allowed Sinclair Community College students
to park under I-75 in downtown Dayton.
That practice was eliminated a long time ago.
I don't remember exactly when,
but that sort of thing would definitely not be allowed after 9-11!
The Georgia Department of Transportation
was storing construction materials under I-85.
Three people have been arrested for setting the materials on fire.

Remember, Atlanta is the same city where the highway department
caused the deaths of a busload of baseball players from Bluffton College
ten years ago on their way to play some games in Florida.
The signage on I-75 was very misleading.
It indicated that an off ramp was the HOV lane.
There had been EIGHTY similar crashes at that off ramp
in the few years before the baseball team was killed.
