ESPN concerns drag on Disney, shares dip

The real controversy is suppose to be played out on the field, the actual game.  ESPN gave this guy the *wrong* platform, they encouraged this political protest, from a really talented athlete.

Not much of a baseball fan myself, but, it looks like this guy could be a pitcher if he got his head screwed on right.
Unfortunately, by shining the light on individual stupidity ... his football career is screwed.
If you got amazing talent, use it to the best of your ability, enjoy the praise and just do what people expect - keep the rest to yourself.

Athletes ... just ... sort of fail in the political and intellectual fields.   ESPN hasn't done them any favors.  Like Bob Costas seemed like a good guy, until he opened his mouth about gun control.  Just had to ruin it, eh, Bob?  Colin?  ESPN?

Exactly! The likes of ESPN has made the player the star and the actual sport a sideshow for their propaganda.

ESPN GOT MORE POLITICAL IN 2016, IT LOST REPUBLICAN VIEWERS

The FOX blog "Outkick the Coverage" has attributed ESPN's decline to the rising partisanship coming out of Bristol, labeling the network "MSESPN" in pieces like this one, headlined "ESPN Profit Plummets As Network Turns Left". "Outkick the Coverage's" Clay Travis supports his argument with Scarborough data showing most sports fans are conservative politically.

Naturally, the news out of Bristol has led to a variety of "takes" across the Internet. The National Review Online wrote a warning about politicizing sports. Others have scoffed at the idea that partisanship has kept people from watching ESPN, even as ESPN's public editor concedes that it is among "a set of smaller causes" harming ESPN. Perhaps the hottest take of the day claimed that "sports fans really don't like anyone who stands up for civil rights."
