Title: Direct TV Issuing Refunds over NFL Protests
Post by: Solar on September 26, 2017, 02:16:01 PM

Under Sunday Ticket's regular policy, refunds are not to be given once the season is underway. But the representatives said they are making exceptions this season -- which began in September -- because of the controversy over the protests, in which players kneel or link arms during the national anthem.

Mark Hoffman, a longtime subscriber to Sunday Ticket, which gives sports fans the ability to watch every Sunday game, said in an interview he was able to cancel his subscription on Monday. The package costs around $280 per-season.

"I honestly didn't think I'd get a refund," Mr. Hoffman said. "I know their guidelines, I just wanted to make a point." Mr. Hoffman, a former business editor at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, said he made his case successfully to a customer service representative after sitting through a recording saying cancellations weren't an option.

The protests, which started last season when quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the national anthem to protest treatment of minorities by police, were a focal point of this past weekend's games.

Let's see if Dish and Comcast will follow.   Direct TV has set the goalposts for the sports networks.

Good customer care!  Rather than totally piss off the customer, it's better to give that refund and retain the customer.  PERIOD.

This was smart on their part, in that Direct TV costs a lot more than Dish, so they'll probably pick up some new customers over this.

Do they have something like Sunday Ticket? I thought it was a DirectTV exclusive.

I don't know as I don't do TV, and my wife only looks at moves.

Good question. I have Dish and completely skip the sports BS, wish I could completely remove it from the line up.
Like Opra, it's just more clutter I have to waste time avoiding while searching for my cartoon channels.

I've been falling asleep in the past during NFL games.

Come to think of it, I never fell asleep listening to a NHL game (that's Hockey, for the great unwashed).  The color commentary is all action, fast paced, relatively commercial free... hmmm... guess I'll have to tune around on the radio a bit.
