Title: Burrito Shop Closed After Libs Claimed They Stole Mexican Recipe
Post by: Solar on June 03, 2017, 02:55:23 PM
So much for "Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery".
Yeah, they studied how Mexicans made burritos and libs claimed this was theft.....

Kali Wilgus and Liz "LC" Connelly, owners of Portland pop-up shop Kooks Burritos, just wanted to make and sell some really great burritos. So when they were on a trip to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico, they "picked the brains" of the local tortilla ladies and brought those recipes back to the States.

"I picked the brains of every tortilla lady there in the worst broken Spanish ever, and they showed me a little of what they did," Connelly told Willamette Week. "They told us the basic ingredients, and we saw them moving and stretching the dough similar to how pizza makers do before rolling it out with rolling pins. They wouldn't tell us too much about technique, but we were peeking into the windows of every kitchen, totally fascinated by how easy they made it look. We learned quickly it isn't quite that easy."

Whelp, apparently this interview sparked an Internet shitstorm, which ended in Kooks Burritos shutting down and the two white women who owned it scrubbing social media of the business' existence.

Wilgus and Connelly were accused of cultural appropriation by the Internet mob, and even the theft of PoC's recipes.

If the recipe doesn't include dog meat, it's not authentic.

Portland is working diligently to become as wacky as San Francisco and Seattle.

Portland is right up there with San Francisco and Seattle.   I don't know of a big city that is not.   People in the old days just came from the wrong side of the track.  Today they come right out of  the sewer.

There's a reason they were called Burrito, they contained old Burros.

It was a goal of the left to waste the West Coast and they succeeded, because in some ways, the further North you go from SF, the nuttier it gets and Portland is in some ways, further left than SF where SWJ's are concerned while other areas are solid Conservative holdouts surrounding these islands of crazies..

Yep, they came from the East after spoiling their own nest. I just wish there was another country that was as attractive to libs as the US so we could run ads attracting them away from us, kind of like throwing dog shit on your neighbor's lawn during a family get together to keep the flies away.

Nah, they all started on the East coast. Ca was full of people from every nation on earth, but it wasn't until the Eastern invasion did the state start to suffer.
First it was the newspapers at the turn of the century, then water barons down South stealing land and writing laws allowing them to steal water rights.
Then things simmered for several decades till Moonbeams dad, (Gov Jerry Brown) Prior to Gov Reagan, started the Progressive Bull Shit up again, all the while the state remained solidly Conservative.
Came the 70s when the GOP started its dive into liberalism because the Establishment had a death grip on the party, the rest is history.

I could actually give a play by play commentary of the States death spiral from the beginning of the 19th century, and every tiny razor cut to the State can be blamed on a progressive and a willing Pub out to make a buck.

But then, that really is every State in the nation's back story, Progressive entrenchment in both party's.

If we are to apply this evenly, all those Mexicans working in Italian restaurants in New York should be fired. In fact one of the best Italian meals I ever had was in Puerto Rico. hey need to be shut down.

The irony is these two did it right. Instead of winging it and coming up with a bad representation of Mexican cuisine they studied it so they would be doing it authentically.

Now, if only the libs would attack the RINOs
for "cultural appropriation"
for making laws that are similar to the ones the Dims make...

Remember when I asked you if you had an authentic recipe for Spanish rice a few years back?
These two chicks did it right, it's why after 55 years, I have yet to find that authentic taste that Mexican neighbor made for me.
Yes, I'm still searching, but if these SJW idiots are left to their unimpeded idiocy, I'll never taste that excellent flavor again.

Mexican Recipe?   Two shots of tequila and a cigarillo, swat a few flies, add them to the mix and drown out flavor with some peppers so hot it will burn malaria virus out of your blood stream.

This is SO HARD !

If you HATE someone, like GENERAL LEE. tear their statue down.

If you LOVE someone, enough to name your Sports Team after, like an American Indian, tear that name down.

Where doe that leave MASSACHUSETTS (an Indian name if there ever was one) ???

Your neighbors Spanish rice may have been one of a kind.  She may have learned from her mother but added one or two things to make it her own.   My wife learned how to make Tortilla from an old Mexican lady, as a teenager.  You just can not find a Tortilla in the stores like what she makes.  There no recipe, it's all in her head and in her hands.

When these racist critics dared to complain about someone stealing a culture, did they voice that snivel in Spanish, or English? (Selective appropriation, anyone?)

That is so funny - it just happened to wifey and I, 2 weekends ago.   We went to an Italian Restaurant and Bar, in lowly Martinsville, VA, on a saturday night... one look at the menu, I knew we were in the right place - in fact, the only doubt I had, the live piano player was playing "Imagine" - instead of Billy Joel or something Dean Martin made famous.  He got around to that, with a little reminder, "Why'd you wait so long to get to Billy Joel?"   The guy was great.

The appetizers were so good, I remember remarking, "I'd come back here, just to snack on these & listen to the live music with my darling wife!"   Since we were the last ones there, out of the kitchen walks, unmistakably, the chef - a Mexican.   The main courses, which I cannot pronounce, were perfect.  Next visit, is for Lasagna.

Funny thing about it, the only person in the restaurant who *looked* Italian... the owner & bartender.   I don't know what REAL Mexican food is suppose to taste like - everything is "Americanized".   But, living in Milwaukee Metro for a bit, you'll find some of the finest German, Polish & Italian gourmet food ...  and shun the "Americanized" crap for what it is, I could "smell the authenticity", moments after walking in the door.

Spanglish ... no doubt, probably pissed them off because it didn't taste like Taco Bell or Jack-in-the-Box.

I botched my earlier post, I meant they were made from burros, which is why they're called Bur-eat-os.

OK, I'm going now...

I had a similar experience in Buffalo NY.  There was this Italian place - operated by an Asian family!  And it was great Italian food!  (It was about a mile south of the airport.)

The hamburger chains have a pretty weak presence in Buffalo.  Instead, there are Italian restaurants on what seems like every street corner.

Speaking of Buffalo, there are NO Taco Bells there!  Instead, there's a local chain called Mighty Taco, which totally blows away Taco Bell with the quality of their food.  Taco Bell just cannot compete at all there!

Only a liberal would not want a more authentic Mexican experience in a local Mexican restaurant.  This would be a real appreciation of the Mexican culture if they could be taught to think.
