In this day and age a growing number of  people strive to satisfy their bodily emotions (pleasure).  Carrying your cross, contemplating our Lord and helping your fellow man is not a priority.  Homo Sapien needs something to give him/her a quick and effective "jolt" to make him/her realize what life is about and why we are here.

The Cov might have done that.

Talk about Thread Drift.
In acknowledgement of your initial topic, I do see a correlation between the "drift" and  one's relationship with God:

That their is Wisdom in simplicity.
The more complicated we make things, the more likely confusion and chaos are to ensue.

One opinion, everything material about our world changes, or drifts, and is expected to change. I don't have to hand crank the tractor anymore. We look for ways to make things better. God is the one constant in our lives that should not change. Religion is the one topic I stop having when people tell me what they think God should be based on their feelings. God is real, what he demands and expects is there for anyone to learn. The God I have grown up with is the same God today. I see too many people trying to change God, what he is, in order to justify what they want to do. Kind of like the liberals who trash the constitution while claiming to be doing it for your safety.

There is much validation in your "opinion"... even to the point I would consider them  truisms.

I remember my bio-grandmother....VERY strict, had a few strange ideas.  Like she didn't allow rootbeer in her house.  She was certain that because "beer" was part of the name, it couldn't be good for you.  If you were visiting grandma, and you were there when Sunday came around, you went to church with her, no staying in bed and sleeping until she got back home.

And then one thing that has always been one of my funniest memories...she was very strict about the language you used.  She used to be the operator in her town (you know...like Sarah on the Andy Griffith show).  These two men were talking, one was the business owner, and the other one of his truck drivers.  He wanted the guy to take a load somewhere, and the driver was trying to tell him he needed more time to get it there.  They argued and the argument kept escalating, and the cursing started.  Grandma broke in and told them they needed to calm down, that she didn't allow language like that in her home.  They yelled at her that they weren't in her home, and she said your voices are, and I won't tolerate it.  The owner started cursing at her, and she promptly pulled both cords.  POOF!  End of conversation.   Morale:  Don't mess with grandma!

Grandmother knows more then you think, rootbeer was made with alcohol in it  for a good many years.
