QuoteThe report recognized the "positive aspects of civil unions and cohabitation" and said "homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community." As for Catholics who divorce and remarry without an annulment, we must avoid "any language or behavior that might make them feel discriminated against."

Hailed by gay rights groups, the document stunned traditionalists.

"Undignified. Shameful. Completely Wrong," said Cardinal Gerhard Muller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and guardian of Catholic orthodoxy.

I'm just wondering if there are some Catholics here who has an assessment of this Catholic change in doctrine, I'm a protestant and so are all my friend family and friends so would like to hear what  real Catholic has to say about this.

Thanks

SVPete

I'm also a Protestant, but my understanding is that this report is no more binding than if I somehow got the synod to receive some sort of paper that I wrote.

Yeah, that's the good about Protestantism, everyone is a pastor and all of us only answer directly to God, but the Catholics have placed their faith in the hands of the Vatican, and now the Vatican has become either infiltrated by socialists or have started to adopt positions that goes directly against the law of God.

I don't understand how a Catholic can continue adhering to the Vatican and the Pope when the Vatican is clearly changing biblical interpretations and doctrine to appease socialists in direct violation against God.

As a former Catholic, all I can say is it is clear that Pope Francis is a Progressive. The fact that he is a Jesuit means that this should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the Jesuit Order. They are the Catholic church's radicals!

Pope Francis is the polar opposite of his predecessor.

This could be a time of drastic change for the Church - possibly as dramatic as the Protestant reformation. I'm not sure if the Church can survive it.

Imagine that...a religious leader making it clear blind hatred and intolerance of people because of the way they are born is no longer acceptable. Welcome to 21st century western morality...it's about time religion started to catch up with our more humane and modern views on morality.

Good on the Pope. I couldn't stand the German one, but this pope is proving to be a very likable character.

I suspect in 50 years most Christians will have gotten over the gay thing, and they'll be preaching how without religion we would have never had the moral framework for treating gays respectfully, as atheists have no morals, etc., etc. Kind of like what happened with slavery, where the Church (specially in the South) used the Bible to justify slavery, but have conveniently forgotten that and claimed the high moral ground.
Skepticism, like chastity, should not be relinquished too readily.

And, your proof that they are "born that way" is...

Or their churches will have been sued into insolvency, and their ministers sent off to government re-education camps by the Government!

Charming...

Liberals and Atheists have an unique way of defining "tolerance".

Quote...and they'll be preaching how without religion we would have never had the moral framework for treating gays respectfully, as atheists have no morals, etc., etc. Kind of like what happened with slavery...

Was it not Christian churches (mostly Quakers) which formed and led the abolitionist movement?

Quote...where the Church (specially in the South) used the Bible to justify slavery, but have conveniently forgotten that and claimed the high moral ground.

So, you are using the churches of the "South" to stereotype all Christianity? And, indeed, not even all Southern Churches tolerated slavery.

Finally, you seem to forget that it wasn't Christians who sold their African brothers into slavery - it was other black Africans. In fact, if you go to Western Africa today, you will find that those slave markets which sold African Slaves to white Europeans still exist...

Darth, the irony of you asking for proof of a gay gene is that your comment came on the day where research scientists announced the results of yet another study, this one which has narrowed the location of the genetic changes to the base regions 8q12 and Xq28 of the X chromosome. Not the first study of it's kind to arrive at the same conclusion.

Wow, Hatred? Is that what you got out of all those years in a Catholic school?
Seriously, did they teach that God Hated fags? Or is this just more of your warped ideology?

Talk about a bigoted, close minded view of life.
I'm surprised he didn't claim we hate handicapped children as well.

So, you are saying that homosexuals are suffering from a "birth defect"...

Well, that being the case (because science NEVER skews its data to accommodate a political agenda) then I guess we can stop teaching "alternative sexual practices" in public school sex-ed classes. Kid's can be tested for the "gay gene" and if they test positive, they can then attend "special" sex-ed classes that are tailored to help them cope with their, um... disability...

It will work well for "Gay Marriage" too. Heterosexual couples need to take a blood test to prove reproductive compatibility. Same sex couples would similarly have to be tested for the "Gay Gene" to ensure that they really are gay, and not just in it for the social notoriety and cool clothes!

Thanks for point that out!
