My 5 year old daughter likes the band "Cake". I have to admit, some of their songs are a little catchy.

I thought it was a harmless rock band. Nothing to worry about.......................until I heard this song last weekend. Here are the lyrics, and you can listen to the song on youtube. The message is crystal clear. The CD has been smashed and thrown away.

What a bunch of complete idiots!!! Worse than athiests, it appears that they have acknowledged God, and chosen satan as a better path. Good luck with that.

There seems to be a small consensus that this isn't about satan, but a badass car. I disagree. Either way, my daughter won't be listening to it.

I have never heard of cake, at this stage of my kids lives, my kids listen to the contemporary Christian radio station.  Two reasons, I like the music and agree with MOST of the songs, and I can leave the room or turn it on before bed without any real worry that they would hear anything that might be too grown up for them.  The most scary thing on is the weather report.

If my girls were older and interested in other genres (which is quite possible), I would probably react very similarly to how you did.  Someone's intent in a song is not half as important as how the listener reacts to it, as evidenced by the comments in your link.  If the song opens you up to suggstion, remove that from your life.  Satan is about temptation, what temps one, will not always tempt another.  I personally found that I had to avoid too much of certain genres of music through my teens to early twenties, too much made me edgy and angry.  I happen to be rather sensitive to music.

I like lots of rock music. I guess my problem is, that I don't really listen to the words. In this particular song, " satan is my motor, the only one that understands", is spoken quite clearly. Whether those guys are satanists or not, it's not words that I want my daughter hearing, at this age......................or any age really. I don't consider myself a prude, but direct references to satan don't work for me.

No, I agree with you there.  Some could argue metaphor, but frankly unless a song is about Satan getting getting his butt handed to him, I don't really care to listen.

I do have to give you mad props for something too, when I was young, my parents banned AC/DC in the house, not because they had ever listened and made that decision, but because some news show said they were bad.  At my age, that made me more curious about the music than anything.  I think it says a lot about you that you were willing to look for the lyrics and make your own decision, your reason for forbidding it will be a lot stronger that way.  The way my parents handled that has made the difference in how I handle mine.

Yeah, like, "The devil went down to Georgia", by Charlie Daniels.

Nah, as she gets older, I'm not going to forbid her from listening to certain music. I've listened to all the supposedly bad stuff..........Zeppelin, Zappa, AC/DC, etc., when I was a teenager and older. Forbidding me wouldn't have stopped me.

We typically have Bluegrass playing outside, on the weekends. This was a cd that my neighbor's kid burned for me. The lyrics of that song kinda took me by surprise.

:tounge:  I like that song.  I just always thought it was funny that my parents had no trouble with Metalica, Madonna, Salt n Peppa, or others, but AC/DC, no way lol!

You are what you think about on a daily basis.  This is hard to understand.  If you choose ot have garbage, or good stuff, coming in to your brain you will get a very predictable result.  The Bible says, "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he."

We as parents are guardians of the gates for our children so we need to be aware of what is coming in to our homes to the visual, auditory and relational "gates".  It is critical what input our kids are getting.

Just a question for us as adults, "how careful are you to 'guard the gates' of your life?"  If we aren't people of integrity in our walk and talk our kids won't be either.  More is caught than taught and our kids will clearly see hypocrisy in our lives and homes.

How's it going?

What you say is true. Which is why the television almost never gets turned on in our house. My 5 year old has determined that "stupid" is a bad word, so those shows that use it, are off limits. I can't even watch Pawn Stars anymore because they said "what the hell" the other night.

I don't even really notice those words on TV..................and all we ever watch is History Channel or Animal Planet. We have our own little censor. Nothing gets past her.

PS- I checked into CR4 the other day, for the first time in months, and ended up getting banned for a week for fighting with the global warming crowd. Hope all is well.

Well, yeah, except "stupid" isn't a bad word at all, if it's used to illustrated something that's, um, stupid.

Our federal government recently granted $535 million in taxpayer-backed loans to a company called Solyndra, which was already in the hottest of hot water financially. The company went broke in less than a year, and took the taxpayers down with it. There is room for the word "stupid" in this story, and there's reason to use the word "stupid" to describe this sort of idiotic behavior.

Einstein famously defined insanity as being (and I paraphrase) doing the same thing over and over and expecting different outcomes each time. I think Einstein was actually referring to stupidity. Doing what he said doesn't mean you're insane, it means that you're stupid.

In these "PC" times, we're constantly being stripped of our negative comparison points. We're not supposed to have winners and losers. We're supposed to hand out certificates of accomplishment to... well, everybody, whether they accomplished anything or not. What used to be seen as "screwing up" is now supposed to be accepted and applauded as "participation." We're not allowed any more to say who won the game, and we're especially barred from saying who lost.

Can you see where the word "stupid" can be inserted in some of these situations? Can you see where the concept of stupidity shouldn't be abandoned until the actual fact of it disappears?

They still won't let me post.................probably forever.

The moderators are a bunch of young libs. As usual, politics are fine, as long as it agrees with their views. They didn't like me bringing up the carbon credit scam. The biggest financial scam in human history.

In the beginning? My Dad was an engineer, and was on there before he died. He also couldn't stand liberal BS.

I jumped on last time, because I wanted to talk about graphene, drank a few too many beers, and got sucked into the global warming crap. Always a mistake for me.

I can see the connection, graphene being carbon and the libs claim that AGW is Co2 (carbon) connected.
So you got suckered into the whole argument of stupid.
My friend, have you not learned yet, that when the conversation is over a libs head, they usually go with an emotional plea or call you a racist?

But for what it's worth, they are the losers, we got you and you're an asset to any forum.

Thanks Solar. Global warming belongs in a religious forum. It has nothing to do with engineering.
