They snuck it in when no one was looking.

There's nothing off limits here............it's just where you put it.

Hey, at least Justkari is the moderator; one of the most even tempered and level headed members here. It could be a lot worse.

Careful, Ol' Darth may ask you to conjugate the verb 'snuck'.

I hope he's not too hard on me; I had to look up verboten.

It meant what I thought it meant, but it's an ugly word.

Which is why I created it, I wanted a place to move threads that got off topic and headed down the Religion road.
Also Kari was the best choice as Kram noted she is even keeled and as sharp as one as well, cutting through oceans of BS.

Much like the rest of the forum, the only ones that have attempted to poison the religion section...................are libs.

Why is it the ones that claim tolerance, are the ones least respectful of others beliefs?
Don't answer that.  Hypocrite is thy name and liberalism is my belief and Govt thine God.

I am a little curious about what everybody believes. I believe some, even some of the regulars are Atheists, or at least agnostic, some seem to be Deists and others Christian of various flavors. I'm not looking to argue or debate religion, but people should be able to state their beliefs freely and why they believe what they do.  It helps in how you approach another.

Here's what I believe/follow:

I'm a Sabatarian (Saturday), I observe the Holy Days (Passover, Pentecost, Trumpets, Tabernacles) and not Christmas, Easter Valentine's Day or any of the other days that have their origin in ancient Paganism.  I believe the "Jesus" of the NT IS the God of the OT and is the One who revealed Himself to king David and Moses and Noah and all the prophets. Part part of His mission was to REVEAL the Father (until this time Man only knew the Being who was born as Yeshua).

I fully reject the Catholic Trinity doctrine.

I believe that at the Resurrection of the Dead, AT CHRIST'S RETURN, His People are RESURRECTED to Eternal Life, and will rule with Christ in the Kingdom of God in Jerusalem.  Until the Return, the dead are sleeping in the grave and are still dead.

As far as other religions, I love the Arab people but I do HATE the religion of Islam. It poisons and destroys the minds of any culture that adopts it.  Atheists are a close second, but if I had to live under Islam or Communism, I guess I would have to choose Communism, but I'm sure I'd flee to another country first.

I believe in stating what you believe without fear, but I don't believe in proselytizing. I believe God is calling those whom HE chooses in this life, and simply sharing what I believe is all that's required.  I'm not evangelical in that way, since faith is a deeply PERSONAL matter.

Now, WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE???

I was raised by a devout Roman Catholic mother, and an athiest father.
In order for them to be married in the Catholic church, my father had to sign papers, agreeing that any offspring would be raised in the Catholic faith......................which we were.
She died young, but my Mother personified, (to me), what it is to be a Christian. The Catholic church also introduced me to the hypocricy of organized religion.

Over the years, time and again, I have seen "Christians" acting as if the fact that Christ died on the cross for them, is a license for bad behavior...............................I am saved through Christ, therefore, I can do whatever I want. This makes me sick.

I talk to God daily. Right or wrong, I don't believe that Jesus is the only conduit to God. I also would never attempt to convince anyone that I am right. My relationship with God is mine alone.

I simply believe in God, I also respect others beliefs, except Muscum and their political way of life disguised as Religion.
I believe that whatever God is, we can all tap into the power that be, I too talk to God on a daily basis, and thank him for the life I have, for were it not for him, I wouldn't be the person I've become and the gifts he's given me.

I never got what I asked for, but he always gave me exactly what I needed.
Now I only look to God for guidance and thank him, for I have achieved every goal I sought in life, every single one of them and it was he that made that possible.

Out of all the Religions, I respect Judaism the most, but would never consider it, I just don't believe in any kind of ritualism.
God is with us always and a building or Holy place is no better than the place you are currently in.

But that's just me...

I noticed that some of our newer members seem to wander off into the religious weeds at the drop of a hat. Not saying that that is a bad thing, but I wondered if it might not lead to the inclusion of a Religion forum.

I think including a Religion Forum is a good idea. I'm sure Ms Kari will do an excellent job of moderating.

That's how it came about, too many were going off topic and going down the Bible road,.
This is fine, but not all can agree on any one single Religious view and it leads to arguments, so much so, that regular posters are turned off and quit posting.
Not to mention it tends to draw a strange crowd, from extremists to outright militant Atheists.

Instead of babysitting and deleting posts every time, I thought we could just move those discussions here.

Do you personally know any atheists who aren't militant?  I don't. Penn Jillette is one, but everyone else seems to push their "faith" harder than any Christian or Muslim--yet they still deny that it's a religion!

I personally know 5 who aren't millitant.  If you did not know them for 10 to 15 years you would not even know there were.

One even build a church for his wife in a small town.  On the condition it was for the whole community use.  He paid for the land and for the church to be build, that way no one could control it's use.

Glad to hear there are a few good ones. I guess the fact that they don't push their "faith" is why you don't know about their "faith"

If I'm not mistaken, Darth?

Atheist is what I call myself, but it is a little more complex than that.

If you've ever read the novelization of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Arthur C. Clarke, there is a scene where the monolith first appears in the ape-men's camp. At first, they are scared, next they are curious. Once they have satisfied their curiosity, Clarke has this to say about the leader of the group, Moonwatcher, "It (the monolith) couldn't eat him, and he couldn't eat it, so he promptly forgot about it."

That is about as close as I can get to my religious philosophy without running the risk of boring you all to tears! LOL

I've been one for over the last 55 years, having been raised a Lutheran for 17 years. But I distinguish between Atheist and atheist.

For the atheist, it's a matter of choice, while the Atheist feels a need to proselytize. But, as an atheist, I don't. A person should be free to choose whatever religion to follow, or none at all.

Agreed. I don't think I've met a militant athiest..........although I guess they exist.

I'm perplexed by the people that actually take time out of their lives to file formal complaints, about the presence of a cross or a manger scene in the town square, or on public property. I don't see how those things can be construed as the government establishment of religion.

By this line of thinking, all crosses should be removed from Arlington National Cemetary. I think that it could almost constitute the government establishment of non-religion. A dangerous path, in my opinion.

I've never felt threatened or scared by the presence of a Manorah, or any other religious object................regardless of the religion.

Much ado about nothing.
Appears that the cross goes back long before Christ.

According to the book Babylon Mystery Religion, the cross originated among the ancient Babylonians of Chaldea. From there, it spread to ancient China, India, Mexico, parts of Africa and other places, centuries before Christianity was born.

Notice: “Ages ago in Italy, before the people knew anything of the arts of civilization, they believed in the cross as a religious symbol. It was regarded as a protector and was placed upon tombs. In 46 B.C., Roman coins show Jupiter holding a long scepter terminating in a cross. The Vestal Virgins of pagan Rome wore the cross suspended from their necklaces, as the nuns of the Roman Catholic church do now”

They keep pushing forward. If they win these lawsuits, Arlington would qualify for removal of crosses.
