Frankly, I'm disappointed.  This is hardly "the story of the Bible."  It's "Bible stories."  Glorified Sunday School.

You've got a point, although I think the production is quite well done. I don't like the way they skip over entire decades, or even 100s of years. They should have made it into series, rather than a miniseries. On the other hand, they had a limited budget, and no one wanted to touch it.

Consider this though...Given the huge viewership, we will likely see more of this type of programming. Also, I think it is exposing a lot of people to the Bible, that otherwise wouldn't have bothered with it.

My biggest worry, and one that is already happening, is that the left is rewriting Jesus into a socialist. If they can make money by changing the lessons in the Bible to suit their purposes, they will do it. US history is being rewritten as we speak.

So far, I have only watched portions of it.  Roma has said that the purpose of this series was to spread the Word, well this makes me worried because some of the stories have been altered, or combined in the interest of perhaps interest, or saving time.

The fact is, Christians are held to a standard of perfection.  How often do we hear from non-Christians when we do something wrong "but you're a Christian" as if you never make a mistake.  If a non-believer looks up the story of the temptation of Christ, like it was depicted on TV, they won't find it, it was similar, but not the same.  I like original better.  From the outside, it will look like we have to jazz up the stories, when I really don't think we do.

The books are always better than the movies. I guess the Bible is no different.

All in all, I think it's a good thing. The stories on the TV show are pretty brief, but they give people some kind of context through which to do some further digging on their own...including me. I've tried to read the Bible, without much luck. I think I've been doing it wrong; trying to read it like a novel, from beginning to end. I've actually been using the names and places from the show to look further and get a better understanding.
I don't do very well in church either; my attention span is way too short.

I struggled with that for a long time, I finally took out a study Bible that I had from years ago and I am taking it in manageable chunks, daily, with a small relevant study at the end of each days reading.  This helps me because I am not a Bible scholar.  I just finished the OT, the first time I have ever read it from beginning to end.  I think the NT will go much quicker, just by virtue of the fact that I am more familiar with it. :)
