Speaking from a factory floor in Western Pennsylvania, Republican Senator Rick Santorum announced his candidacy and set out his priorities, among which is a real response to Islamic Jihad and support of the flat tax.
Sen. Santorum  resembles TX Sen. Ted Cruz in that neither were born into power, both made it on the basis of integrity, keen insights, intelligence, and a real sense that America must turn away from immorality and back towards traditional American values, chief of which is a respect for the law, God,  and righteous service above self. This coming at a time when 45% of Democrats believe illegal aliens should be provided the right to vote.
Sen. Santorum is atop the ISIS hit list. His picture has been featured on ISIS e-zines.
Having Rick Santorum in the race can only be a good thing for conservatives, who have lately been seeing their movement being dragged down by tax rebels and libertines.  The flat tax position gets that out of the way and allows us to discuss the things that are really important for our nation.

I have long been on Santorum's mailing list and receive all of his mailings.  A couple of weeks ago he sent out a mailing asking everyone if they thought he should get into the race.   I said no.

I think he pulls votes away from Cruz, which isn't good for us.   And I think Santorum has zero chance of winning the nomination..... or even getting an appointment afterward.  He has been out of the loop too long and does not command the same level of respect that the other candidates have.

Yes, he is a good man and I like him a lot.  But IMHO he muddies the political waters.

That astutely pointed out on this site, stalking horse candidates can influence a race in exchange for future considerations.
I like Santorum because he brings a needed message and represents honor, integrity, and morality. Not unlike Sen. Cruz, in that regard.
At this point, I'm thinking the tradeoff is worth it. All those candidates, each with appealing conservative messages, could cause the party to just look good to voters. If it were just Cruz, or just Paul, it would not be the broad based attack on leftism.

You may be right about that.  More voices create the appearance of a growing momentum.....

If they are in there just to make Bush look good and to shake down McConnell and Boehner for favors when the time comes, well, that would be another story.
Latest poll I heard, Beck, showed Cruz in the lead, Walker running second.

Can you link that RD?
This is exactly what I was talking about in another thread.
When polling is done on the Right, minus libs, Cruz kicks ass.
What I find in every pool so far, is they include libs when polling a GOP candidate, they should not be allowed to skew the results, since they won't be voting for them in the end anyway.

Santorum?  Oh, he must have a book coming out.

Many candidates are just trying to stay relative in the political arena....... for whatever bone gets tossed their way!

I put this in religion because Santorum's strongest identification is with morality and religion. He knows he is probably not likely to win the nomination, but his message is one he and his supporters are willing to spend good money and energy to place before the American public.

Aside from possibly Ted Cruz, Rick is the only candidate willing to draw attention to the fact that through God, all things are possible.  Back in the 1940's, Billy Graham took it to the people in California, the absolute impossibility of our solving our problems in the absence of Jesus Christ. In 1946, take it from me, America's social and moral problems seemed insurmountable, even after winning the war. Violence was everywhere and forgiveness nowhere to be found.

Fortunately, at that time, Americans listened to Rev. Graham.  Today, we are not listening.

Yeah, it would seem the nation collectively lost it's hearing in the late 60s.
It's only gotten worse with each generation.
