The Differences

I had a significant emotional event, (aka epiphany), this morning as I was going about my normal daily tasks. It was something that I knew for several years now but, could never quite put it into words. Through some negative events that I won't go into here, I was finally able to put that knowledge into words.

The differences are significant and have eternal implications. The differences do not make us "better" nor "worse" than anyone else. The differences do not make us "higher" nor "lower" than anyone else. The differences do not make us "classier", "more politically correct" nor more "significant" than anyone else. The differences actually make us equal!

The "differences" I am talking about are God's creation. You have heard it said that "we are all God's creation." In fact we ARE all God's creation. We were ALL created by a loving Creator who formed us, loved us and gave His only Son for us. That origin and identity makes us equal in every way. No ethnicity, skin color, ancestry nor living condition separates us. No socio-economic, class nor financial category has any bearing on who we are.

Take any grocery store you like. Virtually anyone can walk in there and buy whatever food stuff they have money to pay for. People can spend $2.00 or $200.00, both are customers and both receive the goods that they purchased. For obvious reasons the shopper with $200.00 worth of groceries has more to carry out of the store than the person with $2.00 but, BOTH are customers.

In the same way, Christians and Non-Christians are equal, both are God's creation. Both have access to God's grace and mercy. Both were created by the same God and both will have good things and bad things that happen to them during their lifetimes. The Bible talks about the rain falling on the just and the unjust alike. The difference is really what happens to the believer and the unbeliever after death.

Going back to the grocery store example, let's suppose that the shopper who spent only $2.00, actually had money to pay for their item(s) while the shopper with $200.00 worth of items didn't. Suppose that the customer with $200.00 worth of items decided to steal the items. How do you think the store personnel would react? How do you think the store personnel should react?

The point is that both people had access to the store but, only one of those people actually had any intentions of paying, being honest or buying what they could afford. Likewise, there are people who have access to God's grace and mercy but, choose to ignore it, claim it doesn't exist or otherwise reject that offer of grace and mercy.
