The likelihood that the U.S. Supreme Court will decide the issue of same-sex marriage grew stronger Thursday, when a federal appeals court upheld bans on marriage for gay couples in four states.

By a 2-1 vote, a panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Cincinnati, rejected challenges to the bans in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee. The ruling reversed lower court decisions, currently on hold, that declared the state bans unconstitutional.

Since the Constitution is silent on the issue, I'm not sure what the basis might have been for the lower court rulings. The entire question is purely political, except for the existence of the federal DOMA, which the Kenyan's administration has decided it doesn't like, and therefore won't enforce.

I am all for banning gay marriages.  Just as soon as divorce is banned as well.

I wonder why these laws are universally referred to as bans on "Gay Marriage"? In most cases they also "bad" polygamy, incest, bestiality and pedophilia.

Why aren't they called bans on polygamy, or bans on incest or bans on bestiality and pedophilia?

Inquiring minds want to know!
