America: A Christian Nation
« on: July 10, 2019, 07:54:58 AM »
Sorry about derailing the other thread Solar.  I moved this here.

America:  Be yourself!

America:  Not like that!  You are to be the self we expect you to be.

Bible:  Luke 12:15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

America:  Greed is good!  Capitalism is and Money is God!

Statue of Liberty:  Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

Immigration Policy:  Make the policy so intricate that only the best and brightest get in.

Bible:  Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. — Proverbs 19:17 and My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, Lord? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.” — Psalm 35:10  “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord. “I will protect them from those who malign them.” — Psalm 12:5 Give generously to [the poor] and do so without a grudging heart, then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land. — Deuteronomy 15:10-11

America:  If you are poor it is your fault you are poor no matter the circumstances. Being poor is based upon the decisions you have made in your life.

How is the USA a Christian nation exactly when Jesus Christ himself says the complete opposite of what America is all about?

Rebecca said...

Jesus said quite clearly that we are to help the poor, widows and orphans, and our neighbor. He did not say we were to give most of our earnings to Rome to distribute. His message has always been and still endures as one of personal responsibility. He also clearly instructed us to obey the law. If you think the plight of the world’s poor and dispossessed can be solved by bypassing God, breaking the laws of nations, and ignoring personal responsibility to help when and where we can and are so moved, you are probably a Democrat and my friend, you are in error.

My response...

Ah I see!   So, what you're saying is that these messages, edicts, etc was for us as individuals to do in our own personal lives and volition for others with our own money and not do it through distribution through "Rome" as you call it?

And, this makes me wonder though.  Are there separate commandments and edicts for governments and separate commandments and edicts for individuals?  And, the edicts and commandments that tell us to help the poor are meant for individuals and not governments?

Am I correct on everything here or at least on the right track?  Or, am I way off base?

Rebecca, if it comes across as that I'm extremely abrasive and argumentative I do apologize for that.  My social skills aren't the best even though I'm trying.  I've never been to charm school.  So, please forgive me?

And, thanks for addressing this.

Hi alienhead, I dont have time for a well worded response but I will throw out a few ideas for you.

There are a few times when the God is specifically talking to a nation as opposed to individuals. These tend to be clustered in the old testement. Some of those were to the nation of Israel but alot were to specific kings(since back then alot of governments were run by kings). Also read the story of when Israel didnt have a king but begged God to give them one, and he gave them a stern warning about kings. This was when saul's became Israel first king.

One instance in the new testement he specifically mentions the government having the power of the sword, ie the power of execution for crimes.

On another note I went to a Christian college but there was still a strong leftist element there who claimed to be Christian. I would often point out to them that 2 of the lefts ultimate goals are crushed in the bible.

God says "there will always be wars and rumors of wars" so world peace? Not ever gonna happen.

Jesus says, " the poor will always be with you" (look up the woman who wiped jesus feet with her hair) thus the WAR ON POVERTY is doomed to fail in its ultimate goal of eliminating poverty.

Hope these help some, your on the right track, dont ever give up, because "nothing can separate you from the love of God"
