The chief justice of Alabama's supreme court ordered state officials Wednesday to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

But legal experts say the effect of his order is likely to be minimal and short-lived.

Roy Moore, acting in his capacity as the administrative head of the state court system, said he was acting because "confusion and uncertainty" exists among the Alabama officials, known as probate judges, who issue marriage licenses in the state.

One more liberal President in 2016 will mean the irreversible, eventual and total demise of our democracy. The rise and fall of democracy IS past the "apathy stage" at this moment. If this  momentum continues on its present path, restoration of democracy will require the least desired of actions.

I admire him for standing up for his State's Rights of sovereignty!

This issue is not going away.  Americans are very divided and a new Administration could push for a redress by SCOTUS.

The Nation is definitely moving to the Right!

I have great admiration for Justice Moore.

He is standing up for his State's rights.  It is good to continue to be a burr under the SCOTUS' saddle.  They made a mistake.  It should be left to the discretion of the States.

A Cruz Administration may seek to get SCOTUS to redress this issue.

Alabama once refused to desegregate schools, restaurants, hotels etc...too. They lost that "battle" and they'll probably in all likelihood wind up losing this one as well.
