Title: RIP Dan Peek
Post by: Inked on July 25, 2011, 10:23:21 AM
Dan Peek from the band America ( 1970-1977) passed away at his home on Florida late last night.  His brother is a friend of mine and told me about it early this morning.  They grew up down the road from me a little ways.  Please keep Dan's parents and family in your prayers and maybe spin some America tunes today.

I have good memories singing along with some of their music while riding in the Vega with friends. :)

That song was written by Beckley and Bunnell, but Dan was the one singing it.

Dan left the band in 78' when he reconnected with God.  Since then America has been a duo and I believe the only hit they had was "You can do Magic".  Dan went on to found a ministry and write many, many Christian/folk rock songs.

His family is very nice and I'm sure they are having a hell of a time right now.  I know his brother is.

It's always sad when people lose someone close to them, but I assume he died doing what he loved, and that is a comfort for the family.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dan Peek yesterday.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Peek family.

"I am so sorry to learn of Dan's passing. Dan, along with Gerry & myself, formed the band "America" as teenagers after being great friends in high school during the late 60's. It was a joyous time for the three of us, full of excitement and laughter. We created lasting music together and experienced a life that we could never have imagined. Dan was an equal and integral part of that early history, and I have never forgotten the good times we spent making that music and learning about life together. Although we eventually went our separate ways, his contributions to the music of "America" have always been present and will last forever. This news brings great sadness. My sincere condolences go out to his wife, Catherine, and the entire Peek family. May Dan rest in peace, and his memory be cherished forever."  -Dewey Bunnell

"I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Dans passing. He was a dear friend for many years. Dan & his music will live on in the great songs he shared with us all. My sincere condolences go out to Catherine and the entire Peek family. May he rest in peace...."
-Gerry Beckley

For years I thought "horse with no name" was a CSNY song...
