Seriously funny and very well done.

Quite true --- and informative, since Johann Pachelbel's 1680 creation was originally written for three violins, a bass, and (whatever that is) a gigue. Wikipedia says that's a lively baroque folk dance, mid-1600s or so, which a few famous composers did add as the end to certain tunes (but Pachelbel and his Canon aren't listed there among them).

Definitely no viola. The guy was right about that part, and about the song's repetitive (or canonical) nature being echoed in so many other songs. That led to looking it up, which led to http://www.pachelbelcanon.com --- which at first sounds so stuffy you can just smell the French dancers waiting in the wings.

Nope. Among their many, many linked offerings, this one definitely caught my eye. If you're expecting the beautifully-measured, restrained performance of this site's featured video (which is nice except for sloppy camera work), then dig on down to this link.

The Korean hip-hop version.

Pachelbel would be astounded at that performance, above. Maybe horrified, maybe awestruck at his lingering fame. Probably like Johann Sebastian Bach might feel after playing Wendy Carlos's groundbreaking electronica masterpieces, particularly the Third Brandenburg.

One imagines Shakespeare --- after viewing films of his plays. The Bard probably would have hated Welles: only one towering egomaniac onstage at a time, yes? What he would've made of Richard Burton --- aye, there's where you wish you'd never been famous, if you're reduced to players like him!

Cul-CHAH. It ain't just for geeks any more, hey?
