One Hit Wonders
« on: April 25, 2017, 11:57:45 AM »
Yes, there are sooo many to choose from, so I selected Good morning Girl, By Tupper Saucy and the Neon Philharmonic. Saucy better known as a 1960s conspiracy freak, or today as a 60s prophet.

Great line.....

"And go out and find your man
Where the wild wind blows"

Mornin' girl, how'd ya sleep last night?
You're sev'ral ages older now
Your eyes have started showin' how
The little girl's growin' now

Mornin' girl, was that you last night?
Crying on the radio, beggin' for a way to go
To go back where love wasn't jumbled so

Oh, no, things are different now
Than they were before
You know love is more than kisses
A whole lot more

Mornin' girl, put your dreams away
And read your box of Cheerios
And powder-puff that pretty nose
And go out and find your man
Where the wild wind blows, mornin' girl

You're right, I still hear it from time to time. I like to look up these old bands to see where they wound up.
Knew a lot of talent over the years, some made it, while others found careers at pizza shops and minimarts.

I knew a guy who had a restaurant franchise waaaay out of Detroit, who was a member of the original The Romantics (not the present group but an earlier separate version which made a one-hit wonder themselves...."What I Like About You."

Here's a video of the tune from a newer incarnation of the group, very similar (but not identical) to the original. (Damn YouTube when you really need them...!  )

I remember the song, from what I believe was the 60s, hey, but it was the 60s.
Is this the one you are referring to?

That's the cover. The original singer sounds even more constipated than this one.

Remember Patty Smyth?

Gotta call you on this one. Scandal had a MUCH bigger hit with "The Warrior," which hit #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1984. Also, they had at least three other singles that charted better than "Goodbye to You."

"Beat Of A Heart" is the best song from them. "Warrior" gets overplayed on the radio.

Wo-o Black Betty bam-a-lam
Wo-o Black Betty bam-a-lam
Black Betty had a child
The damn thing gone wild

By........... Ram Jam !!

What's interesting about this song though, is Ram Jam is definitely a one-hit wonder, but the damned song has been done by everybody under the sun.

Blues guys (Leadbelly, Iron Head) in the 1930's, Tom Jones, Manfred Mann, Meatloaf, Moby........... and a bunch of others.

It's kinda like Maybelline by Chuck Berry..... stolen from an old country song that goes back to the 1800's called "Ida Red".  Imagine an old country western band in the 1930's playing something that sounds like Maybelline.  Freaky.

Or "Everlasting Love".......... we all remember the one-hit Carl Carlton doing it, but it was also done again and again by everybody.  Only song to ever be a top 40 hit in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's.

Well, Carl did have "She's a Bad Mama Jama" too..............
