I was wondering if their were any Star Trek fans in here and what did they think about the new movies by J.J. Abramms.

I for one think they need another dirrector for this, because these movies, to me, simply don't work.  I can't really put my finger on it, but the first one changed so much in one fell swope that it really turned my entire perception of the world on it's head.

The second one was such a knock off from The Wrath of Kwan, which was, in my opinion the greatest Star trek movie ever. All he really did was reverse the roles of Kirk and Spock, at the end and I was pretty much ashamed to have paid money to see it.
Deeper questions have often been the offspring of former answers.  knowledge, Wisdom and understanding demands it to be so.

I agree, 100%!

However, there is a solution...

Star Trek Phase II answer to JJ Trek - Timeline Restored

They need a Time Travel Movie ( They return to Earth in 1914 & have to choose if the Archduke Ferdinand lives or dies ) or ( They return in 1863 and must pick a side in the American Civil War) or (They return in 1777 and involve themselves in the American revolution ...

Time travel has been way too over used in Science Fiction!

Especially in Star Trek!

The new movies are a travesty.  Should never have been made...new movies should have been based on Peter David's New Frontier series.

Long time ST fan here, especially TOS. I am rather intrigued by the idea of a new timeline. I was quite upset, and almost ready to walk out on the first movie before I realized that Nero had significantly altered Kirk's past - as well as the rest of the TOS timeline - by killing George Kirk at James T's birth. There were still more than a few things wrong with the script, but I was able to enjoy it overall.

The second, I do take exception to the all-too-obvious parallels with Wrath of Khan. Definitely not too well written script there, almost as bad as "The Naked Now" from Next Generation.

That said, I have to admit I really like Chris Pine's portrayal of James T. Kirk. Seems to me he hits the level of arrogance coupled with ability that is just right for the youngest Captain to ever command a starship. Zachary Quinto makes an OK Spock, though he is, IMO, way too openly emotional. It does not allow for as much humorous interplay between Spock and Bones (who is played to excellence, IMO, by Karl Urban) and Kirk as the original Spock kept trying (often unsuccessfully) to hide his emotional half. And Zoe Saldana as Uhura - WOAH! I never liked Nichelle Nichols version of Uhura. My opinion of Simon Pegg as Scotty is still being formed, leaning toward "they coulda-shoulda done better". I do like both John Cho and Anton Yelchin as Sulu and Chekov.

Still a fan of TOS over all other brands of ST, but, despite the lame second attempt, I would like to see more with Pine and the rest of the new timeline crew.

I think the new Star Trek resembles Deep Space Nine more then the other TV shows or movies. It has a harder edge to it.
