It should be reasonably okay.  No romance or kids this time, I hope.  The pressure's on Disney.

It is being directed by J.J. Abrams...

Did you see what he has done to the Star Trek franchise?

Just an aside, I think it was a mistake for Lucas to sell Star Wars to Disney.

My $0.02 worth...

Lucas' bank account begs to differ. I think he's at the age where he doesn't care what happens to the franchise from here out. His legendary status will remain intact and if Disney screws it up, the franchise will be viewed as pre Disney and post Disney thereby cementing that the Lucas name is only attached to the pre Disney era. If Disney keeps them successful fan favorites, Lucas still gets the credit for creating it. Really, I see it as a win-win for him.

And I think Disney will do it justice. The problem is that hardcore fans have this idea in mind of how they want it to be and it will never meet their expectations. Disney are masters at creating imaginative universes and characters so that won't be an issue. They're great at inserting lame humor in their movies just like the original Star Wars, so that won't be an issue. As pointed out, if they can avoid horrible child actors and bad love stories, it'll be fine.

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the new Star Trek? This generation is liking it and mocks the original. It doesn't seem as....cerebral....but it has it's fun moments.

Hollywood, elites or the Media made George Lucas a liberal retard, you don't need more proof for this other than the Han shot first revisionism. I really like Luca's early work, both working together with Spielberg on animation movies and alone, especially their work with Don Bluth.

I agree with you about the hardcore fans, they will never accept anything that is not canon by their definition.

I liked the new Star Trek movies as well, though nothing beats the undiscovered country and Wrath of Khan. Into darkness was really awesome, though I wished they made more out of Khan, seemed kind of anti climatic how they just froze him or whatever they did. Then again i'm not that big of a ST fan, though I have seen most of the series, I prefer SG10 and Atlantis (Joe Flanigan) a lot more.

You may be right... seeing John Boyega's mug (the black guy on the Tattooine dune) pop-up, sporting a present-day pedestrian haircut, could be a bad sign.

And the beach-ball robot seems to promise unnecessary cuteness.

There'd better be a stormtrooper-conscript storyline, because those guys got their asses kicked.  We'll need to know why they're still amassed.  The Force Awakens, eh?  It's just run-of-the-mill telekinesis.  -Which all of us possess under the banner of circumstantial adrenalization.  Abrams'll hafta clarify the concept more.

It may not be perfectly canon, but the semi-official comics that covers the preceeding story after Return of the Jedi is about "The Remnant" forces of the Empire, so there are a lot of Storm Troopers out there, Imperial Garrisons, remnant fleets etc.

Additionally storm stroopers are not clone troopers, so they don't all have to be latinos.

What is with the black storm trooper? Weren't all storm troopers cloned from the same "original" and he definitely wasn't black.

Agreed! It gave me flashbacks of V.I.N.C.E.N.T. and Old Bob from Disney's Black Hole!

I'm guessing he's on an undercover mission ala Han Solo and Luke in A New Hope.

You are thinking about Clone Troopers. Post war Storm Troopers get gradually replaced by regular Citizens drafted into the Imperial Army and may be all of ethnicities though only human are allowed as the Empire is based on human superiority.

"By the time the Galactic Civil War began in earnest, Jango Fett's clones were heavily supplanted by clones based on a variety of templates around 9 BBY,[13] followed shortly after by enlisted Humans.[19

Although the deaths of both Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader in 4 ABY caused the collapse and fragmentation of the original Galactic Empire, stormtroopers were retained as elite soldiers under several successor states, such as the Imperial Remnant, the Second Imperium, and the Empire of the Hand. By the year 138 ABY, stormtroopers still existed in two Imperial states: the New Galactic Empire of the Sith Lord Darth Krayt, and the "Empire" of the exiled emperor Roan Fel. "

Don't ya hate it when somebody surprises you with a camera, and you don't have time to make a decision about how you prefer to be portrayed... ?  It looks like you've drank way too much caffeinated coffee.
