milos

A 2003 Danish drama, a parable written and directed by Lars von Trier, and filmed in Sweden. Starring Nicole Kidman, Lauren Bacall, Chloë Sevigny, Paul Bettany, Stellan Skarsgård, Udo Kier, Ben Gazzara, James Caan. Surely one of the best movies ever.

Here is the main scene.

One Christ. One Body of Christ. One Eucharist. One Church.

This depressing Kidman vehicle places her into humiliation and a numbingly stupid situation, despite her all-powerful gangster father (Caan). He's not in this enough to interest Jimmy's usual fans: try Thief for one of his best non-Godfather roles.

Kidman's Dead Calm is better. Billy Zane as the villain, and for him The Phantom if you want to see him do the good guy.

Dogville is a psychological study of human behaviour. It makes us think about our thoughts, emotions, and deeds. I would say it was based on the Biblical elements, like the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Passion of Christ, and the Revelation. A beautiful lady angel comes to a little town to seek for protection. But people don't recognize her, they still bother with their usual daily egos and earthly worries. She starts to suffer for her kindness. They use her and torture her, but she still loves them and forgives them. But, if we don't repent, we shall reap what we sow. No matter how powerful we are, there is always someone stronger. The time has come to pay the debts. And even an angel must see the truth and accept the facts for what they really are. Is our best really good enough? That is the question we shall always ask ourselves. A masterpiece.

And Nicole Kidman in Dogville - the most cute ever, IMHO.
