Israel's bombshell movie star
« on: June 07, 2017, 05:18:56 PM »
What irks the Paleswinians more, a beautiful Israeli actress who speaks at length with pride about her years in the military --- fighting Hamas --- or the fact Gal Gadot is the first woman star in cinema history whose film earned more than $100 million in its opening weekend?

Wonder Woman, indeed!

I've seen this 2.5-hour film, which does a good job in World War I battle scenes, particularly when the naive young Amazonian princess simply can NOT stand idly by as men die all around her. It's long, it's big-budget, and lots of very good war-in-the-trenches photography. It may also be the highest movie earner this summer, if not all year at the sorry rate Hollywood's been going.

What it does not have are the U.S. red, white and blue from the original costume, this time darkened into a more dramatic (but still skimpy) battle outfit. Gal Gadot, a former Miss Israel and a contestant as Miss World, manages to look pretty good anyway.

If you mean, does the movie have a name, you're too isolated for your own good.

You may want to reread your description again. Unless one is a follower of movies or comics, your description down right sucks. I thought you were referencing some Israeli movie about WWI and comparing it to Wonder Woman or some such nonsense.
FWIW, I have no interest in seeing it, just not into the whole superwoman type PC BS crap.

Okay, so you hate movies, TV and any other form of entertainment. Got it. It still was the #1 movie and I dare say more than two-thirds of those reading my post would agree, WONDER WOMAN, INDEED! mighta sorta been a freaking CLUE there, ya know?

There. I plead to bad italics.

Completely out of context with a  and a . From what you had just written, how was anyone to make the connection to the movie?
Note the title update:

Did it take place in Israel, was she fighting Palestinians as you allude to in your opening line?
Look, I get it, you're enthralled with Hollyweird and every character they produce, but seriously, you're alone in your admiration of the Freek Squad.
The title alone leads one to assume this movie was made in Israel, even your opening line leads one to believe it takes place on Israels border.
Then you skip a line, reference Wonder Woman, as if maybe the character looked like Linda Carter, then jump to having seen the movie yet give no link, not even a trailer, which, by the way, is available.

I said I get it. I happen to respect the industry which constitutes America's greatest export and employs hundreds of thousands of Americans (and others, worldwide). Like you I often deplore the treatment of certain politically-themed issues. But I also applaud what is RIGHT About that industry and the technical advancements now in use by other nations' film makers.

Wonder Woman is the first major film directed by a woman and took 15 years to develop, into a long but important background of the iconic female hero --- in the 1940s completely unique even though it WAS invented by a socialist. Not one iota of Moulton's beliefs are evident in this film, and I was watching intently but it never came.

Did it touch on depraved indifference to the body-counts by the Brits? Yes. I had just read how Pershing held off sending AEF troops into battle until they were fully trained on UK and French equipment --- AND that they go in as entire units, not fill-ins that the UK in particular needed from their loss of thousands of men per day.

This film does show that, very briefly but historically very accurately. It is also an overdue heroine film NOT of Krypton, or from outer space.

The movie does not lie. It offers young women hope just as George Reeves leaped through windows and was faster than a speeding bullet for us boys.

I still recommend it, though it's also probably the only movie I'll see all year in a theater.
