I Spit on Your Grave (2010)

Back in 1978 I Spit on Your Grave was the "Faces of Death" exploitation movie of the period. It would have gotten an "X" rating if they had still existed, but because they didn't, it got an "unrated" designation, which was effectively the same as "X". No admittance to the theater unless 18 or over.

By today's standards, this was not really such an outrageous movie - with Hostel, Hell Raiser, Saw, Green Inferno, etc. some may even view it as comparatively timid. Not me, but SOME.

The original movie lost money, but it became a cult classic - much like Faces of Death. Young people rented it and dared others to watch it or played it at Halloween parties.

It got VERY bad reviews (34% on Rotten Tomatoes from eleven reviewers) but then so did Dirty Harry. Unlike Dirty Harry however, I Spit on Your Grave did not make anything at the box office - neither the original nor the remake.

But then It's a Wonderful Life was a box office flop when it first came out...

This is really more a graphic vengeance movie in the tradition of the Call, or the Death Wish series than anything. It's about bad people having bad things done to them. The problem for critics and many viewers (some like Roger Ebert, who called it "the worst movie ever made") is that the first part of the film is nothing more than scenes of the abuse of the victim who later goes off and gets even. The rape-torture scenes are truly revolting and not sexy.

In that regard, the movie is really more like Faces of Death than porn, even though there is some graphic sexuality. Anyone who is greatly turned on by the rape scenes in this may have issues or they may have a serious problem finding a lover/spouse if they admit it.

So the first 30 minutes or so are intended to make you really hate the bad guys so that when they get what is coming to them, the viewer is satisfied that they deserve it. The problem with that of course, is that it is questionable whether ANYONE should rightly be tortured to death in the sense that some needs may be better dealt with through psychotherapy than catharsis through wish fulfillment.

I have to admit that if I had it to do over again, I'd skip the first 30 minutes and go right to the vengeance. I have no difficulty believing that some people probably deserve anything and everything bad that could possibly happen to them. The second half of the movie is a lot more like a combination of "Saw"  or "Hostel" and a Death Wish movie. The bad guys' demises are...elegantly staged.

It was amusing if you realize that it's not real just to admire the special effects (ultra-realistic as in Green Inferno) so it looks like what is happening to them is really happening to someone, not fake at all. The actors did a very convincing job of screaming, crying, and begging for mercy.

Probably my favorite snuff involved a traditional Native American method which involves animals(that's all I will say about it).

My only objection to the movie is that once again, they are making rural white folks look bad.  Just like in the movie "Nebraska" or "Deliverance" or any number of other Hollywood shit-weasel B-movies, they cast rural white people as drunken, lazy, psychopathic savages. In real life, any torture-rape crimes like the ones seen in the movie would far more likely be executed not by drunken rural whites, but by drug-sucking urban Charles Manson leftists, black Haitian, Jamaican or sub-Saharan African voodoo practicing Satanists, deranged muzz terrorist, PCP-addicted wannabe rapper, or a coked out Hispanic drug cartel member.  As a general rule, the LAST person who would be involved in this sort of criminal rampage would be a white person. Statistically sadistic torture murder crimes in the United States are exponentially more-common in non-white ethnic demographics (particularly black) and the white perps who do are almost universally foreign-born from places like Eastern Europe, Russia and are career criminals, not "employed white males who work in a small rural town, who are bored, thin-skinned and insecure".

That being said, the snuffs are righteous and a couple are so ingenious that you have to admire the originality of the writers. If you're into that sort of thing.

I saw this movie back in the early 80s I think. Anyway, I was so impressed with it that I wanted to share the retribution part with the guys in our office, but to do so, had to set the scene, unbeknownst to me, they had hired a new secretary for the office, a pretty young demure thing that thrived on doting males that loved the damaged chick.

What I didn't know was she got the job on sympathy, she played the rape victim, and as soon as I tried to share the plot, they all came to her rescue.
I could have puked at the spectacle, here we are, an office of private investigators, the epitome of testosterone drip, and these guys acted as if they were witnessing puppy abuse.
Nope, I never said another word, but it's refreshing to hear someone else saw it and got it.

Oh, she later burned these guys and claimed sexual harassment.

Typical. The tyranny of weaklings. The oppression of the powerless over the powerful using government force. The Age of the Ascent of the Cacogens is upon us. With Lord Obama as the Cacogen-in-Chief. In a more-civilized age, someone of the Eightball Obama's degenerate nature would be driven into the wilderness or forced to earn a living as a court jester and to subsist on the Dog's Breakfast. He and his cronies are the first Dynasty of the Idiocracy (may their reign be short).

If I'm not mistaken, Hussein was a teen at the time my little incident happened, most likely getting high at the time....
