The Corruptors. Chow Yun Fat and Mark Walhberg in a surprisingly tight, well-crafted "crooked cop" film, set mostly in New York's Chinatown.

I was fully prepared to hate anything even REMOTELY associated with Oliver Stone (who claims producing credit but everyone else did the work). This one rises well above that genre, with or without Stone, and "Fatty," as Jodie Foster calls him, delivers some splendid bits (including a maniacal grin beyond belief). I recommend this one after The Killers to show Chow's progress as an actor, and in English.

Got it as half of a $5 two-movies-one-package offer, at Wal-Mart. The other movie: Rumble in the Bronx. Jackie Chan---what else needs be said? Chop-socky, wicked-cool stunts, and plenty of mindless gratuitous violence. (Glorioski!)

===

Then another bargain-disc-set. Three classic Charles Bronson flicks, starting with The Mechanic (he plays a hit man, wife Jill Ireland plays a hooker); Assassination (he's Secret Service, she's the feisty First Lady); and finally Messenger of Death, with JOHN Ireland but no Jill. Available through WalMart, for about $7.50.

The correct title is The Corruptor (not plural).

They must have had a run on $5 movies.  The bin was about 1/3 filled and I couldn't find either of these.  They are now officially on my hunt list... :)) :))

That stand-alone bin is one spot, but WalMart has expanded their video section where I live, and includes 2-packs, 3-packs and more, in $5 bins, 3/$12, and other combos. If you want it now, without price regard, there's always a free-shipping for over $25 in orders at Amazon (which has YET to find me Rod Taylor's Dark of the Sun).

Prices are falling on the older TV series, and on films more than about 3 years old. Exceptions always include Star Trek spinoff sets. Vol. 2 of Voyager is still at $40 and the teaser-price for Season 1 was only $29, maybe less. (Got that one in a bulk buying spree.) C.S.I. is now a total joke losing Grissom, so his final season is now coming down from the absurd $60 that WalMart was asking. I think they also have the full run of Dexter (though that's not on my list).

A lot of the newer series we get on NetFlix.  Our (his) collection of movies and series was getting out of hand and extremely :) expensive...

Well, being a hard-core down-'n'-nasty TV and movie slut of long and low repute, I must say I will keep feeding my addiction as long as I can. These combo-deals and bargain-hunting and price comparisons can become a fascinating process in itself. Who charges for what, who upholds any quality or delivery guarantees.

On their shelves, the strong Walton family reticence to sell ultra-violent fare is relaxed a bit, but certain items are sold only by shipping to your local store. It's not quite an Easter Egg in a program, but hey, if it saves you bucks, then go for it.

Where was I --- oh yeah. The part about being a media slut.

I waded through the Wally World DVD section for sci-fi and action-adventure, and recommend those two parts of the site. It made my snivel and I broke out in large splotches from seeing the stuff there I had been unable to find cheaply-enough through Amazon. The deliver-to-store option makes it free delivery. Haven't tried that yet but expect to, fairly soon.

I mean, entire first seasons of old great shows. Hill Street Blues ($19.86), a triumph of a cop show, or David Hasselhoff, before his ego ate his brain, in Knight Rider ($18.86). Superman ($13.44 for Season 1 and thereafter it goes up). Offbeat fun stuff like the entire run of Bruce Campbell in Jack of All Trades ($28.86) or another fine family-friendly adventure series, The Librarian ("Curse of the Judas Chalice," $9.96).

Addicted, I say. I'm already planning where to put the extra shelves.....

Q - I had finally taken 3 boxes of movies/series to work and was letting people borrow them for free.  New releases, Blue Ray you name it.  There is no room for new shelves....well maybe if we throw the couch out.... 8) 8) 8)

Those cheap DVDs from all those companies panicking-early and going to Blu-Ray are ALSO vertically stackable, depending on shelving. Cinder block and board also works well, depending on weight tolerances of the floor. Or go with pine board you can disassemble (as I've done through several moves).

When I get to stacking tall shelves on each side of my viewing-chair, and then laying kitchen counter board (for weight) across their tops, to line up more discs, I might consider opening up the storage in our upstairs. Plan ahead, ya know?....
