After Eyes Wide Shut and that other flick in which she bathed a 10-year-old boy admirer, Kidman's choices have tended to veer into David Lynch territory. So that part's not wildly unexpected. Nor is the debasement of the medium, overall, now that there is such little difference between supposed semi-pro and pro cameras and related movie-making equipment.

The equipment continuously improves and the same overly-cautious studios still churn out market-tested goo, featuring the same crop of kids who can scarcely hit their marks much less act. That lack of imagination leads to Part 27 of series, and a downhill slide with virtually every movie series extant. So-called experimental or niche films? They're what's taken over this half-decade. Slash this. Chew that. Suck blood, slash some heads.

We are stuck in the Unimagination Zone.
