2011 movies: an alien invasion

 Looks like 2011 is shaping up as a year of science fiction and fantasy based on comic book and other heroes....

MARCH 4 = APOLLO 18
= Simple premise, and effectively woven into actual 1970s footage of the Moon mission we were told never happened... "There's a Reason We've Never Gone Back to the Moon" sums it all up nicely.

TRAILER = http://screenrant.com/apollo-18-trailer-2-rob-101961/

MARCH 11 = BATTLE: LOS ANGELES = More in the alien-invasion and other sci-fi themes, in a gritty "live coverage" feel best recently used in District 9. Aaron Eckhart (the Harvey Dent character in Batman) stars.

JUNE 3 = X-MEN: FIRST CLASS = Prequel-alert, prequel alert. If this 1960s-era throwback doesn't kill the franchise, nothing will.

JUNE 17 = GREEN LANTERN = Here's hoping DC does it right for this underappreciated comic book hero.

TRAILER = http://screenrant.com/green-lantern-trailer-rob-87990/

JULY 22 = CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER = Two-fisted America (with shield). Dead bad guys. Things go boom, and often. Looks like great fun.

TRAILER: http://screenrant.com/captain-america-movie-trailer-rob-95464/

JULY 29 = COWBOYS AND ALIENS = Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in a whole lot more serious western take on alien invasion (despite the cartoonish title tricking you into thinking it's Mars Attack style humor).

TRAILER: Cowboys & Aliens - Super Bowl Spot

AUGUST 19 = CONAN THE BARBARIAN = Steven Lang as the villain, and Ron Perlan as Conan's father. Jason Momoa as Conan.

PHOTO = Scroll past the first cartoon, for a direct shot of beefcake = http://screenrant.com/official-conan-photo-robf-65507/

DECEMBER 16 = SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 = Robert Downey, Jude Law and a second Guy Ritchie directorial stab at the single most-filmed series of stories in English language or cinema history. Steven Fry sounds brrrrrrilliantly cast as the smarter older brother, Mycroft.

Downey in drag, in this TRAILER = http://screenrant.com/sherlock-holmes-2-footage-pauly-97176/

ALSO DECEMBER 16 = MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL = with Ving Rhames probably not going to have more than a cameo as the regrettable Ethan Hunt gets to introduce someone called Jeremy Renner as his replacement (and first in a proposed trilogy).

No trailers yet, but word is that it will be entirely shot in IMAX. If you really, really want the trailer for this, try this great overview (which I reworked here) by Rob Keyes at Screenrant.com (an entertaining and refreshingly pertinent site I just found today) ...

As I said on LNF, Battle: Los Angeles was awesome.

Headed to see Sucker Punch next.

I agree with Danny! Go see Battle: Los Angeles. You wont be disappointed. Better hurry though!

So, on that "last" moon mission, why did the Soviets also agree to the cover up?  :))
Oh and the Chinese, French, British, Australians, etc..?  :))
And didn't the folks down in Florida notice a Saturn launch?  :))
If they can get past that little problem, I may go see it.

Marketing for The Green Lantern has peaked with a 2:31 preview that really does get my cinematic juices going. The film debuts June 17.

I caught Battle of Los Angeles at the dollar cinema...  It was good, but a little cheesy at a few parts...
