I realize this is a local ATL story, however, it has countrywide implications. I will try to summarize for those not desiring to read the entire article.

It is no secret ATL government is corrupt and a disaster. The school system is not immune to the city situation. The current superintendent will not have her contract extended but just allowing her contract to expire with no vote by the board. What a profile in courage. In reading the article it indicated she supported charter schools that are characterized as having mediocre results. The overall system should only hope for mediocre results. What got my attention is the teacher union opposed her being retained. And that folks answers my question about the rest of story. A large number of members on the board are putting the teacher's union in front of the overall system.
