Title: School Brings Back Paddling

It works, there were two other kids that got their ass beat more than me, ''butt' not by much, and I deserved it.

HEPHZIBAH, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- An area school recently sent home consent forms informing them of a new corporal policy at an area school. The superintendent says they've received a little over a hundred forms back, a third of them giving consent to paddle their child.

"In this school, we take discipline very seriously," said Jody Boulineau, Superintendent of GSIC.

GSIC is going old school with a new policy for this year.

"There was a time where corporal punishment was kind of the norm in school and you didn't have the problems that you have," the Superintendent said.

You heard that right. Georgia School for Innovation and the Classics, a K through 9 charter school, is bringing back paddling students as a form of discipline.

"It's just one more tool that we have in our disciplinary toolbox that we can use," Superintendent Boulineau said.

Same here. Then there were the Eddy Haskell's of the school that never got any, but deserved the lion share.

I'd get spanked at school, go home and get spanked again, by dad.

How about we also start corporal punishment for certain crimes as well? (Public spankings?)

Not one teacher ever laid a hand on me.  Nor did I ever see any other kid get punished physically.
We must have been good kids, as opposed to you juvenile delinquents.  :tounge:

Most kids never found out, unless they told their friends, it's not like they announce it to the class, that johnny got paddled.

On the other hand one of my favorite stories from my Mom's childhood...

My grandparents had 4 daughters born within 6 years.  Those 4 little girls fought like cats and dogs among themselves, but God Help the outsider  fool who ever said or did anything to hurt one of them.  That person would be surrounded by all 4 girls ready to pounce.

One day Daughter #3 got in trouble with her teacher.  Keep in mind that this was a very timid, tiny, frail, sickly little girl.  I don't remember what Mom told me her little sister did to anger Teacher, but the teacher picked the little girl  up by the throat, banged her against the chalkboard and held her there with her feet dangling while the teacher screamed her rage at the terrorized first grader.

One of the other children in the classroom, a neighbor and friend of the 4 sisters, snuck out of the classroom and ran a few doors down to the classroom of one of the older sisters of the victim.  He opened the door and ran in.  He searched for and found the sister and yelled, "Come quick!  Miss X is hurting Jeannie!"

Out the door they both raced,  stopping only long enough to get the third sister out of her classroom.  When they got to ground zero, they ran up behind the teacher and yelled, "You put my sister down!!!"  The teacher growled back, "Go back to your classroom or you will be next!"  The sisters would not budge.  The teacher finally relaxed her grip and the semi conscious child slid to the floor.  The 2 older sisters half-carried, half-dragged Jeannie home and told their mother what happened.

The next morning at breakfast Daddy announced that he was going to take them all to school.  Little Jeannie cried because she was afraid to go to school.  Daddy assured her that he was going to make sure no teacher would ever hurt her again.

They left the house a few minutes later than usual because Daddy wanted to be certain that Teacher and her class were already in the classroom. Daddy took all 3 of his girls to Jeannie's classroom.  They marched in, Daddy placed the 3 girls at a safe distance and walked up to the startled teacher.  He picked her up by the throat and smacked her against the chalkboard.  As her face turned purple he read her the riot act and ended by stating that he would "finish the job" if he ever heard that she manhandled another child.

He then took the 3 girls to the Principal's office and demanded that Jeannie be transferred to another first grade teacher's class.  The Principal balked, stating that the schedules were already carved in stone and any changes would be disruptive to all the children, Blah, Blah, Blah....  Ignoring the Principal's words, Daddy turned to his 2 older daughters and asked them for the names of the teachers they had when they were in first grade.

Daughter #1 replied, "Miss Y"
Daddy asked, "Was she a good teacher or a really good teacher?"
"She was good...I guess."

Daddy then turned to Daughter #2. "And your teacher was...?"
"Miss Z, and she was a REALLY GOOD teacher," enthused Daughter #2.

Daddy turned to Jeannie and asked her which teacher she would like.  No fool, Jeannie chose the REALLY GOOD teacher.

Once again the Principal attempted to take control with his blathering... Daddy's response was to silently pick up Jeannie and sit her on his lap.  He then told Jeannie that he wanted to show Principal what Teacher had done.  Jeannie allowed Daddy to pull her dress down just low enough to reveal the angry purple bruises in the shape of hands, encircling the tiny throat.  Principal was immediately struck silent with gaping eyes.

As Daddy fixed his daughter's dress he very quietly gave the ultimatum to the Principal,
"Either you take us to Jeannie's new classroom and introduce us to her new teacher, or I will use your telephone to call the police.  My brother, the Police Officer, will be here shortly so I can file a formal complaint."

Jeannie loved her new teacher.
No other teacher ever laid a hand on any of the 4 girls again.

Decades later, when I asked my Grandfather about the situation he confirmed what my Mom (Daughter #2) had said but added something of which my Mom was not aware.  As he let go of the teacher he was afraid to turn around and face the class.  He was afraid that he had frightened the other kids in the class. He was a gentle father, firm but fair, and he never laid a hand in anger on his wife or children. He did not want his daughter's friends to be AFRAID of him.  To his amazement, when he turned the kids were staring at him with mouths gaping open, but when Grandpop smiled tentatively, the kids all grinned happily back at him.  He did not know it, he did not plan it, but this man had just become their Super Hero.
Many years later most of the boys in that first grade class donned the uniform of the military of the United States and were stationed all over the world fighting World War II.  Just about every one of them stopped in to see my Grandfather the night before they left town for Boot Camp.

Hell I had it coming, there was no secret about it.  Don't ask if that the best they can do, I once told them that my little sister could do better then that.     So they got my sister and gave her the paddle.   She look at me and ask do you have this coming, I said yes.  She enjoyed herself.

Good God no!
The teacher would use the intercom, call the principles officer, tell them a pupil was on their way, that the teacher would come after class to explain.
Seldom if ever, did any kid get out of a paddling.
Those of us that kept getting in trouble for stupid crap, always kept it between ourselves, though we would tell the other kids outrageous stories of soaking the paddle in water to make it heavier and a seal when it hits and paddles with holes drilled it so as to allow the air to pass through so it could move faster.
We said they had really big paddles for the really big bad kids, that some even had notches indicating how many kids bled.
Yeah, we played it up, but the truth is, it only hurt for a moment, but the embarrassment usually was enough.
But the stories kept kids inline, not us though, we were bored to tears in class , school moved way too damn slow for us.

Walks, LOL I think I would like your sister. LOL

I guess you and I just grew up in different worlds.  Or maybe it was just different for boys and girls.  At any rate I am glad you and Solar turned out to be good men.

Very! Now the left has the sexes so mixed up, they're afraid to even show affection anymore, out of fear of being accused of harassment.
