One of the Obama administration's signature efforts in education, which pumped billions of federal dollars into overhauling the nation's worst schools, failed to produce meaningful results, according to a federal analysis.

Test scores, graduation rates and college enrollment were no different in schools that received money through the School Improvement Grants program — the largest federal investment ever targeted to failing schools — than in schools that did not.

The Education Department published the findings on the website of its research division on Wednesday, hours before President Obama's political appointees walked out the door.

"We're talking about millions of kids who are assigned to these failing schools, and we just spent several billion dollars promising them things were going to get better," said Andy Smarick, a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute who has long been skeptical that the Obama administration's strategy would work. "Think of what all that money could have been spent on instead."

When government controls information, freedom suffers. We all know the MSM is the modern prog answer to Pravda of the old Soviet Union. But our children are under ever worse influence. The public schools system, from pre-k through PhD has been turned into little more than nanny state indoctrination institutes.

From preK-12, we need to get all federal influence out of the schools, and get more solid conservative parents active by running for school boards. I do not know what to do about our institutions of higher indoctrination. Federal research funding drives so much of ongoing research in the university system -- with associated caveats such as global warming and other social engineering practices -- and I am not certain how we can go about changing that influence since private support for pure research tends to be comparatively lacking. (Sad, considering the advantages pure research have always ended up bringing to society...)

More private schooling will help influence some school systems.

It will help, as will vouchers to help those who cannot afford private schools.  But there will still be a large percentage of the population who will continue to be dependent on the school system as provided by their respective state/local governments. We can no longer afford to allow those schools to remain under total control of the far left.

The Trump administration could take the first step by returning the responsibility to the states. That will only partially help as many state education systems are still controlled by the left and unions. In actuality, the agent of change must start at the parental level. If the parents don't give a damn and willing to turn their children over to leftists nothing will change.
