Mega-Hurricane Matthew heads for Jamaica, Cuba

By HOWARD CAMPBELL

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — One of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes in recent history weakened a little on Saturday as it roared across the Caribbean on a course that still puts Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba in the path of potentially devastating winds and rain.

Matthew briefly reached the top hurricane classification, Category 5, and was the strongest Atlantic hurricane since Felix in 2007.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said its winds had slipped to a still-devastating 155 mph (250 kph) and it was expected to reach the eastern part of Jamaica on Monday.

Monster hurricane. :scared:

The current path sets up the potential worst nightmare. A storm that tracks the east coast.

So far so good for FL. The storm has moved to about Daytona Beach, but still offshore. Only tropical storm winds onshore and this also reduces surge which is the real damage. Just hope it takes the projected right turn and misses the GA and SC coasts. This one had the possibility of being the most expensive hurricane ever.

Some place I was reading it was down to a C 3 now.  Or that could be in land.

It is down. As long as it hugs the coast its interaction with land will help. Hilton Head area and Charleston could be hit if it does not turn east. Lot of property values in those areas.
