According to the Animal Poison Control Center, calls reporting marijuana poisoning in pets increased 30 percent over the last four years. In 2009, the center received 213 calls compared to 320 in 2013. Unfortunately, the number of actual cases are likely much higher.

We lost a bunch of cattle in the high Sierra for two days, finally found them , they had destroyed someones weed plot, probably 50 plants.
Cattle seemed to do just fine, they quietly walked back to camp.
All I needed to do was rope one to the horse, hand him a flake of alfalfa and instantly all the others followed like robots.
I think they may have been really high.

That's funny.  A friend and I went horseback riding and the trail leader told us not to let the horses eat a specific plant that grew along the trails.  I don't remember what it was, but he said it would make them sick.  It's odd that animals would eat things that aren't good for them.  Our turtles won't.  They seem to know the difference between good and bad plants.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

Sadly herbivores will eat anything if they're starving, like horses eating thistle, which accumulative, kills them and it's a horrible death.
One of the ranches in the valley had a herd of cattle in serious need of food, they wound up eating Jimson weed or Devil's snare and were killed when they panicked and ran out on I-5.
It's a serious hallucinogenic that literally drives people to do the most insane things.
Here's a horror story I'm about to read. The neighborhood kids, my friends took this stuff back in the 60s and nearly burnt their house down.'

That's sad.  Even deer?  My cousin says they'll eat anything, even her rose bushes, thorns and all.

LOL!  Yes, my neighbor spent thousands to landscape when they first moved up, only to have the deer eat nearly every plant the stuck in the ground, probably hundreds of dollars in plants.
Soooo, they got a dog  and she planted some kind of bulb to bloom in the spring, she probably planted 50 if not 70 all lining the road and walkway.
Come spring, nothing was coming up, but about 100' away at the edge of the forest was a huge grouping of what I think may have been daffodils or something similar.
Apparently something dug all of them up for food.

Oh no.  Bulb plants are highly toxic too.  Some are lethal to dogs.

Which made me wonder if that's why they bloomed? Had they been eaten, there wouldn't have been so many flowers.
Yeah, I always wondered about that.
The only thing I ever plant is roses, since they are native in the wild variety anyway.

I'll plant whatever will grow here.  It doesn't seem to matter how much you amend the soil (sandy) it's never enough for most plants.  If the root system can get below the sandy stuff, they'll do okay.  Not great, but okay.

Here in the forest it's pretty much acidic clay and rock, so if it's not native, it doesn't survive long unless you bring in yards of topsoil.

That's what we had to do for the vegetable garden.  Bring in tons of topsoil.  It's still picky, can't grow everything.  What's weird, you can go inland a couple of miles and in some places the soil is really dark, sticky like clay.  It needs my sand.

Same here. Where I grew up in the valley, I took good soil for granted.
Black, rich, river flood land in the Sacto. valley, but up here? Pure Crap.
Toy wants to do a huge garden, but I calculated it's cost at least 7K to fill it with (somewhat) good soil, real good soil will cost twice that.

Maybe if you do it in blocks, a little each year, spread out the money and work.   You'd have to enclose it too, to keep all the critters out.  A bunny or deer could level it in no time.

You can buy a lot of good produce (organic) at a farmers marketfor that kind of money.   Then you can do the canning yourself if your into canning.

My boy lives in Seattle and does not have a big yard.  He is using old 5 gal food containers for growing thing he likes fresh.

All that's covered, but no matter how hard you try to seal them, they'll always manage to get through.
