Yep, I heard a couple of Russians say that owning a dash cam was akin to having a toilet in your home.
Most Russians don't care about being witnesses to an accident because it means involving yourself with the state, so you're on your own when it comes to proving your case and cameras don't lie.
They said drunk driving is epidemic in Russia and walking drunks are even more prevalent.

The Cold Warrior in me says it was easier to kill yourself drinking to forget the misery under socialism. Certainly fewer repercussions, forgetting rather than inconveniently remembering the wrong viewpoints.
