Hurricane Harvey
« on: August 26, 2017, 09:16:53 AM »
I spent most of my career dealing with coastal property issues, both on the east coast and gulf coast. Anytime there is a cat 4 landfall there is much damage. It seems so far the property damage is not as severe as it could have been. However, the ongoing danger from water is far from over.

I do see some positive things about this storm. It went on shore between Corpus Christi and Galveston. There is no good place for landfall, but it missed major population centers. It is moving slowly, but still moving inland. Any movement inland takes more of the storm off the water. The biggest danger at this point are idiots who do not recognize the dangers. Also, there will be more flood insurance in place than in most hurricanes. The folks in the area understand what a hurricane can do.

It appears Trump did his home work and has those in charge of FEMA on the ball. The governor gives the administration high marks.  I have already seen some leftist comments that Trump is using Harvey as a distraction. Interpretation: He is handling it well and there is nothing to criticize him about.

One possible affect will not be seen for some time. I understand there are three refineries in Rockport. The impact on the oil and gas industry will take a while to unfold. We could the impact on gasoline prices nationwide.

Our thoughts and prayers should be with the folks of south TX.
