Sure, why not, the flower vase on the VW bug was such an improvement, they drove their customer base away.

Obviously they're hiring a shitload of liberal arts degree wusses.

Right up there with the spray on mud splatter to make those soccer mom mobiles look like they've used 4wd and ventured off road.
Crazy but not stupid!

When wifey got a new car, same color as the old car, we got it dusty & dirty - left it that way.
From the road, 400' away, it looked pretty much like the original car.

But, when we traded it off for a little White Nissan Frontier truck... the base model with crank up windows & 5 speed manual, it was talk-talk-talk from the neighbors - who owned trucks 2x the value of her 4 cylinder, putt-putt truck.   I got a used 2014 White Sierra with lots of problems, on a deal from work to use BOTH and get a better trade-in on a new Nissan Titan XD (Diesel), so she could get back into a good truck for the farm.  We bought RED - should have picked a WHITE truck - the neighbors, talk-talk-talk, again.  Amazing how much the neighbors assume from the roadway, 400' away through shrubbery, fence... the chickens, ducks, cows, pigs - I think they might have *named* them!

If I *ever* got a Sports Car again... I'd get it painted like it was an old car.     Or if it was an Auction vehicle with a few dents, but otherwise ran good, I might *enhance* a few areas with bad paint or primer ... neighbors think "they drive wrecks", a lot less talk.  We just want to be "left alone", not gossiped about.

Really, I posted the April Fool clip - for BOTH reasons, it's funny what rich people will do with brand new things, rip holes in Blue Jeans, trying to make them look used.   But, for people like me, not wealthy, but occasionally do buy something *new* ... I kinda like to enjoy it, so I sort of give it a "worn look".

Because I was the first to move out in the wilderness I decided to build my own home, nothing special, but one board at a time it came along.
After years of work and scraping by on beans and rice, I went for the best siding to cover the one inch thick plywood, over R21 and another layer of three quarter inch OSB, yes, it's sound proofed as well.

Point is, I was raised to always think like a broke man, money was to be put away for absolute necessities. As time went by more and more people moved into the area, I now have four people living on my road. Many spent all the had to get financing for something they would always be slave to.
My neighbors always assumed I was broke, and that's fine, but when I buy, I pay cash and new, and that gets them squawking. (I also have no bills)

I think buying a D-7 dozer put a few over the edge, a toy every man wants, but can't justify, so every time I fire that monster up, and yes, it can be heard for a mile around as I move at walking speed which usually takes an hour just to get to the job, so they're reminded I'm a bit of a quandary mixed with an enigma without a worry in the world as I move with the power of 100 elephants through the forest.

I enjoy the jealousy in a few, it exposes just what they really are, tools for media to manipulate, some of these people should have stayed in the city, they really aren't smart enough on their own.

You and I are of the same generation and I had the same values instilled in me. I was able to avoid the "keeping up with the Jones" syndrome I saw so many become entrapped by. Now I am very grateful I have been conservative with my spending and now we are quite comfortable.

Exactly! I only spent 10% of what I made, saved the rest or found stuff to invest in, like copper, etc.
I lived like a pauper by choice as I watched my friends go deep into debt. Like you, I too was raised to think no one was there to bail me out in later years and to always remain independent and indebted to no one or entity.

I can't even begin to imagine how horrible many feel, just one payment away from bankruptcy as the vultures circle in wait, or the daily robocall reminder of just how precarious your financial system is..

I live that - and no matter how wealthy you started into it - a sudden turn in health, just to keep you alive, and quickly reduce your savings to zero or next to nothing in just a couple of years.  Happened to me, and I'm watching it happen to my once millionaire best friend who is having both legs amputated, no fault of his own.  He sued & won after 5 years of them trying to run-out-the-clock on him, all his retirement plans gone, all the money he has/had, thanks to Obama-care turning healthcare into a JOKE - he's miserable & getting poorer.   I'm just poor.

If you got good health, CHERISH it, enjoy it, live like it & love like it.   'Cause when your health is gone, at least you'll have the great memories, and maybe that'll give you impetus to continue thanking God for all those good years, and for the years to come.  God *has* been very good to me, and still is, very, very good to me!

I've always lived well within my means too. As a result I'm comfortable today, own my home and have no debt whatever. Sometimes it was a struggle with my wife who is a native city girl from LA who valued everthing by money and the latest fads and what everybody else had, said and did. I think she has finally seen the wisdom of my ways especially when she realiazed about all they owned were the clothes on their backs and that was about all.
