I May Be Old, But....

For me it was Dylan's Detroit concert debuting his new electronic sound, and some fool shouted out, "We want Dylan!" To which "You Can Call Me Zimmy" stepped up to the microphone and in the politest possible tone replied, "Whom did you come to see?"

Another one was seeing Ted Nugent leap six feet straight up and land on top of his concert amplifier. I was greatly surprised later to read Nuge claim he has never taken drugs: the note he hit just before his leap wasn't THAT exciting!...

Howsabout yourself? Any great concerts come to mind?

Have not been to one concert in my life time.  But then I don't like big crowds.  I am just a country boy, just give me some down home country music.  I am as happy as a clam at high tide.  My kids and grandkids were/are into concerts.

Now that I think about it, I was happy as a clam at a Michigan State Fair performance by Little Richard, who was warming up for James Brown, and every ten paces down every aisle in the joint was a uniformed Michigan State Police officer.   I suppose it depends on which big crowd....

Attended a concert at Atlanta - Fulton County stadium. It was like an all Georgia band deal with James Brown, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Gladys Knight and the Pips along with a few more locally known acts. Must have been the mid sixties.

Brown was probably far tamer in Georgia than Detroit, and Ray Charles and Gladys and her Pips undeniable winners. Would've loved to hear her early live version of "Midnight Train to Georgia." Was Brown doing the bring-out-the-towel-and-cape routine that early?

Not that I can recall.

We saw Stevie Ray Vaughn the last time he was on stage in Dallas, before his death. He was a walk on during his brother Jimmy's band, "The Fabulous Thunderbirds" set at the Dallas Convention Center.

Yes: last month, Billy Joel at Fenway.  Wow.

Best concert I ever went to was Billy Joel in the late 1970's.  52nd Street album?
We were seated about 20-25' from his left side, slightly behind him.
The only thing missing were the small round tables, in a smoke filled bar/restaurant...  the atmosphere was just like that.

Second best was Jethro Tull, Aqualung era...  Ian Anderson was a solid entertainer, very energetic!

Wasted concerts were the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane/Starship...  hard to describe them as concerts.

That's the one thing I do regret looking back. Missed Pink Floyd, The Who, Moody Blues, Styx, Foreigner, and a few others. However I did get to see Neil Diamond a few times, Donna Summer at Poplar Grove outside of Chicago and Fats Domino at an Alan Freed sponsored in NYC back in 59 or 60. It's hard to budget for a concert when you are making nada in the Navy.

The wife and I go to local blues concerts when ever they are in the area, and in Florida (Fort Myers Beach) every year.
