There is a lot of truth in that. We have canyons like that in my area, and GPS drops to 1 or 2 satellite connections, totally throwing off your location.
Often times in the winter, people wind up getting stuck in the snow on a skid road for logging because they lost contact with GPS from storm clouds and terrain and wind up making a wrong turn.
Some are lucky, while others are found way too late.
