Too many Moms have turned into short order cooks for their spoiled children.

Let's get back to the "good old days" when children were treated like children instead of masters of the house!!!

Sounds like old home week at home as a young pup.
I know a grill chef at McDonald's who would love this as a T-shirt.

Seems to me that working mothers and microwaves became a True Romance item from the git-go. If you're actually COOKING something these days, they'd wonder how you find the time as they shove individualized meals at their kids and ignore those long-term implications you mention.

I was once threatened with being wrapped in a wet sheet with only my fork-hand free, and I'd be left there until I ate the meal before me. I must have eaten the meal because I surely would have remembered the wet wraparound. (Ah, the 50s. After Sputnik I went up, I was ready to believe ANYTHING.)

Funny you mention that romance!

We had a houseguest over the weekend who said his wife (Armenian) abhors microwaves.... doesn't believe they are safe and healthy.  She cooks from scratch using only organic and whole grains.

The downside is that they have two adult children (one a medical doctor... the other a lawyer) who will not leave home.  They are in their mid and late thirties but cannot find anyone to marry that measures up to Mom!!

He groans at his future life because he just retired.  His wife won't let him boot the kids from the nest.

What has happened to this Nation !!!!   :scared:

A personal experience.

When I graduated from college and had a job I was going to get married in three months. I went back to my Dad's home and was going to wait until I got married to move out. My Dad immediately told me I was welcomed to stay and the price for room and board would be $---. I quickly found an apartment and moved out. We need more of that in 2015.

Your Dad took charge of his household.

Too many men today defer to their wives and are too weak to take headship of the family!  That is true of our houseguest.  Very weak man!

Same here. When I got out of the Army, my dad said I had 3 months to get my shit together, after which rent would be a grand a month, 1974, mind you. :scared:
I didn't wait, I was out in 3 weeks and never looked back. Split a house with two other friends at $100 a month rent, had the time of our lives.

Why don't the two kid move out get a place of there own.   They can find and hire there own personal Chef.    Time to tell them two week and your out the door.   So find a place and a personal chef.

I totally agree.  But you cannot live other people's lives for them.

This family revolves around the Mom.  She rules the roost!  She wants everyone to stay.  Her life revolves around those adult kids.

The Dad goes along to get along!

I've seen these families. Each and everyone dysfunctional as Hell, which seems to be the glue that attracts them.

My favorite local example is a former radio newscaster who worked his way into college-level teaching as his two sons grew up and ultimately attended college, earning degrees in socially-responsible but unemployable areas. The last time I saw old Dad, he was working part-time at a big-box grocery store while the sons "can't find work" and remained at home. I didn't ask if Dad still taught anywhere. Clearly, he hadn't learned much to apply to himself.
