A man in Amsterdam felt that he needed to confess, so he went to his priest.

"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned," he said. "During World War II, I hid a refugee in my attic."

"Well," said the priest. "That's not a sin."

"But I made him agree to pay me $20 for every week he stayed," the man explained.

"I admit that wasn't good, but you did it for a good cause," the priest replied.

"Oh, thank you, Father. That eases my mind," the man said. "I have one more question, though."

"What is that, my son?" the priest inquired.

"Do I have to tell him the war is over?"

My first job in Jr. High I was getting $1.25 per hr. and I was living high on the hog.

My first job was $1.00/hr. baling hay on a steeply-hilly farm, where I was lifting bales onto a moving wagon and ALSO had to arrange them up on that same flatbed, then get down and repeat for the next bale. The SOB charged me for the water I drank---10 cents a gallon for his own well-water. Small wonder none of his neighboring farmers' kids wanted to work for him. I left in a week.

Just think what your paying for bottled water now.  Four of us now cut, bale and stack 700 acres in under 4 hrs.

I don't buy bottled water, and I nowadays don't bale hay. I was his only worker.

I did work elsewhere, briefly, as part of a 4-man crew, but (again due to hilly country) we didn't do much better than 100 acres in a 5-hour session. I grew up in Michigan's Irish Hills, which are gorgeous and scenic, and a misery for farmers or school-bus drivers.

I did one summer hoeing corn out of beans.....made $1.50 hour.....

Lowest rate.  Babysitting for .75 cents per hour.  That was good money. :) :)

They're charging $10/hr. per child in Ann Arbor, and getting it. Of course over there, every good comrade-mother bearing more than two tax-deductions is also married to some wildly-overpaid moron who buys a "big foot" mansion and wants her to stay home. Then she pawns the little beasts off on some Nicaraguan with shaky documentation, or drops them at some unionized day-care center where Marx and Engels lessons come before and after the soy-milk and cookie break and the nap.
