But the slave ship Captain John Newton was convicted of his sin and wept for what he had done to these people.

My associates and I became fascinated by these ongoing relationships, which lay relatively dormant through the years leading up to the 9th century. Meaning, the excitement was limited the the occasional pillage and plunder, inter tribal and inter island. By and large, the islanders were more content to battle it out amongst their own tribes on an intra-mural basis than they were is setting out to sea. The Vikings changed all that. We did extensive reading and research on the principals of that 15th to 17th century era.  That would be England, Ireland, Italy, Norway, and France in this particular historical configuration.  I'll spare you the details, but refer anyone interested in that scholastic journey to google reformation/counter reformation.  Happy trails!

What our society needs to be reminded of is the fact that, sometime in history, every people has suffered under slavery, and every people, at one time, practiced slavery against others, and sometimes their own. There are no special circumstances, and skin color does not give anyone a special pass due to past transgressions.

Taking this advice, we might tend diminish psychological baggage, ancient wounds and memories that are trending to drag us to the bottom, stifle our creativity, and discourage us in that cycle of depression, addiction, resentment, hopelessness,  all those unnecessary character flaws.
